Wow. Hopefully, you and your family are never in the need of assistance from private parties or foreign governments.

I honestly hope you think about other ways tax payer money is wasted....I can assure you is not better than saving lives.

Yawn. The truth hurts that the USCG is out there’s saving people regardless of how they got in the situation? While not getting paid because of the government shutdown by the way.

I wonder if there really was another smuggler and a CYA story from the Bahamian. But the USCG did search another two days.

Actually, the CG is getting paid through the shutdown.

Nobody here would not want these folks rescued, but its not wrong to wonder about the costs. But what came to my mind in addition to being amazed and gratified by the story itself, is why would these folks not be returned directly to where they came from or handed off to Bahamian authorities? They have not entered the US at that point.

I guess with all the current discussion over illegals crossing the border, it makes you wonder if its different when you are picked up in international water. Anybody know?

9 rescued, 2 souls lost at sea one was a 9YO lost at night alone. How incredibly short sighted and arrogant to even address thr cost of rescue operations. Billinstuart

Just look at his track record. Par for the course.

J Bridge, great job saving those lives Captain! I know you didn’t wake up that morning thinking that you would change people’s lives forever. But that’s life sometimes. And thankfully “most” of us would do the same thing given the opportunity.

And to those that wouldn’t, may you never need the help of others in a desperate situation. Because karma can be a real bitch.

Some people just don't "get it". Why is it OUR job to police the world? They came from the Bahamas in international waters..let the Bahamians do it. It's not necessarily the cost, but WHY us?

Why not us?

This situation stands alone apart from the "world". The world is an ugly place and makes it easy to justify indifference... lives, all lives are precious and it's a mariners duty to render aid.

I strongly disagree Bill.
