Default gasparilla 2019

Only a month away! Who is going?

I plan on putting in at the causeway and driving the long way around to avoid traffic at the ramps. Did lowery park a few years back and it took 2 and a half hours to get the boat out of the water and had to back up 2 peoples trailers because they don't know how to back up...

Got a few other friends coming with their boats also. Going to get in early before the bumber boats starts and get a good spot. Marked map with where ill be. Anyone wants to tie up let me know. Time to pray for good weather

Thankfully I have a buddy on the river just north of Hillsborough. So I put in on Friday at Lowry and tie up at his place for the night. Drive over Sat morning and load'em up. After the invasion we make our way back to the house when I can finally enjoy a drink. Pull boat out on Sunday.

seafoam 24 Shearwater with full tower.

For those in Pinellas county, there is a group called Party Pirates on the Rocks that organizes a smaller Gasparilla invasion that leaves from the Bellair Causeway and invades the Pub and then Indian Rocks. We did it last year (after years of playing in the real Gasparilla Parade) and it was a great time.

Much more toned down but still a great time. Last year they had about twenty boats participate, I think this year will be much larger as the word has spread and the local merchants are getting onboard.

Check it out.

We go most years, it is my GF favorite day on the water all year but as the sober captain I don’t share her enthusiasm. Ha. We typically launch at Gandy and go down around the point. Always stop at hula bay on way back and I can a beer or two and relax. This year we are going to Ruskin Friday night, staying at harborside Friday and Saturday night. Hopefully weather is nice this year.

I will be going again this year. Sober captaining as well. Then we go over and anchor off of the seawall for the parade and that is when I have one good solid beverage.

I put in over in Pinellas though and make the ride up. Not nearly as much traffic at the ramp!

We plan on going, 1st time. Not sure where to put in. Would like to put in the day before and take out the day after. May just see about staying at Caledesi. Anyone have any other suggestions? Also what would be a good list of things to bring? Thanks!

Caledesi would be a pretty long ride. look closer to the skyway. Might try lagerhead or magnusen or Maximo.

Things to bring...
Depending on your boat you will need a shitter of some sort. Weather its a 5 gallon bucket or what ever you can get. We had a huge boat next to us last time and the ladies could go on that boat to use the restroom.

Fenders!!! and other things to tie up with

BEER!!!!

BEADS!!

Also after all the fun begins and its boat to boat people will be jumping from boat to boat. So be ready for people to cross over your boat to get to other boats. Its all in good fun though. I think we ended up about 7 boats away from our boat at one point in time before we made it back.

I had a baja back then and had a drunk guy jumping boats jump on to the front of my boat and he slipped in the drink. He was not a good swimmer and could not make it to the stern of the boats because they are all so close together and my friends at TPD yanked him out and got him back on his boat. Was funny!

We where tied up to people on both sides we did not know and made good friends that day.

If you are headed to tie up near where I am give me a shout!

here are some pics from 2 years ago. It will give you and idea of what to expect. The spot we go I like because you can see the land parade behind you if you want. Also it does not matter what kind of boat you have all are welcome. Seen huge boats and little John boats.

FYI - Williams Park Ramp (Gibsonton) is closed for repair so every other ramp on the east side of the bay will be an even bigger disaster that morning.

Not us. No way I'm dealing with that mess on the water.
