Default Info on buying boat in Bahamas

Anyone have any experience with purchasing a boat in the Bahamas, then transporting it back to the US (Florida) and re-registering the vessel?

Looking to move on a seemingly good deal the came up but have no experience with this type of transaction. Want to make sure there won't be any registration, VAT, importation tax or other costly issues that I'm not aware of..

Any info would be appreciated.

Most boats here were originally US registered. The seller should have the Bahamian customs forms which would have copies of prior registration, bill of sale and Manufacturers certificate of origin. Take those along with the new bill of sale to wherever you are registering it and you should be good to go. Go to any Bahamian office and have them Witness the bill of sale, lots of colorful stamps and seals! Make sure you get the duty paid customs form as this will help when you resale the boat, it might wind back up over here. Surprised no one here has jumped on it as it is worth more here since it is duty paid.

It was a regulator but deal fell through. It was not originally US registered but I think I'll stick to buying locally. Thanks for the info!
