Great find for someone who didnt bring their own boat down-- blows away your typical rental boat-- I've never seen a fishing boat that nice as a rental. Where in the Keys is it located? Their website didnt say.

Cheaper to go with you Piner. And they don't have to clean their own fish or the boat. Plus the bonus of they will probably catch something.

Nice rental boat though.

Beautiful rental boat for sure. Makes sense for the guy down there for a week who wants to fish and then hit the sandbar or just explore. If you are down for a weekend, easier to charter.

Looks like it would be a perfect boat for Dry Tortugas trips, too bad the renter is limited to a 40 mile range and no night operation.

I also wonder for the cost of the rental (including fuel) why rent when you can charter with professional guides for similar or less $$?

Would recommend bigpinefishing.com and Capt. Kevin Rowley instead. Has 31 Contender, action craft for the flats and a Seapro bay boat.
Will put you on any fish you want, from bones to swords and fly to spear, and clean it. Just my 2 cents. TightNUpChartes on IG.

I own Underdog Boat Rentals as well as the 31 Contender Piner mentioned. Glad you could stop by and take a look. The 31 is the first of several Contenders we'll have available for rental. In addition to being professionally maintained, every boat we will ever own will be equipped with dual VHF's, an EPIRB, and a life raft. Safety and reliability are paramount. I've been fishing the keys for 2.5 decades and have seen some of the stuff that passes for a rental down here. It is my intention to raise the bar on that industry. While the pricing may seem high to some, I performed a market analysis and priced the C31 almost $2,000 less that a competitor gets for a similar sized vessel (33 Hydrasports) minus the safety gear and the new engines, 1kw transducer, 24 hour concierge, etc. We are insured through Lyods of London and have negotiated the best terms for our clients as far as range and permitted hours of operation. If someone wants to take it to the Tortugas, I can get a ryder for that particular rental period. I hope to make that range available to everyone after a year or two of no claims. Put Piner on this boat and you'd have one incredible combination! I'm a boat captain myself and have no intentions to take away from the local charter guys. There are some great ones out there and I've even rented the C31 to a couple of them when their boat was down. If anyone has any questions feel free to PM me. Tight lines, Capt. James

After years of renting the beat down center consoles peddled by the larger rental businesses in the Middle Keys I was fortunate enough to stumble upon Underdog Boat Rentals and their 31 Contender. Not only was the boat exactly as advertised (and as described above) but Cave Man/James was accommodating and responsive. Stating the obvious, this not being marketed towards the spring breaker with limited to no boating experience, simply too much boat to handle, but if you are an experienced boater looking to create your own experience, Underdog is the ONLY OPTION. For our family, hauling our boat from NC is exhausting and while a charter is an option I personally prefer the journey of finding my own fish. On top of the fish-ability, was also comfortable for a sunset cruise with the family. Highly recommend and already looking forward to the next time.

Beautiful boat for a rental, but for most, the pricing for a professional charter works out better and is much less of a hassle, unless you do a week's rental.

Agree, majority of charter clients are unfamiliar with the waters and functionality of such a boat. I wouldn't recommend for a novice and Cave Man doesn't want to rent to a novice. For years we have balanced hauling our own boat and paying for dry storage through the winter, renting a beat down 25-33 ft center console or paying for a charter. Hauling our own boat is a 14 hour haul and limits our ability to use the boat from our home base (NC) and charters are expensive when you want to be on the water consistently for the 3-7 day trip (still haven't found a charter captain willing to clean the fish and hop back on the boat for a sunset cruise with the wife). Over the years we have taken all three approaches but more recently have leaned more towards renting. As I mentioned above, we enjoy the thrill of creating our own experience so finding Underdog was a godsend. With all that said, 100% agree that my preference is in the minority but for those that are in that minority, this is far and away the best option.

Cave man, Do you plan to add anything 27-28 foot to your fleet? We have been renting for 10 years, every year. the place we stay requires boats 28 or less. Also, for someone that rents a boat for 9 days, is there a "weekly rate" or discount on daily rate?

How many times have I towed my 28 Pursuit to the Keys for weeks stay and gotten blown out?? Too many times to count!
This is the perfect operation, rent the days that it's nice and you will come out ahead for sure!

mhk4830 - Thanks for the nice comments. You and your group were a pleasure to work with. Thanks for taking care of my Contender and I look forward to seeing you again!

slk018 - We just added a Pursuit 25 that is absolutely mint and loaded to the gills with nice Garmin electronics and twin Yamaha 150's. I'm currently shopping for 3 more boats in the 25-28 foot range but for now the Pursuit would work for your application. We have a three day minimum on rentals and a great discount off the daily rate for a weekly rental. For a 9 day rental, I'd hook you up. I'll send you a PM.

signmasez - Getting blown out was the story of my life for over a decade until I started spending substantial amounts of time down here! Thank you for the nice comments.
