Well... being an Aussie I can assure you if you pull this kind of crap back home your boat would be cheddar cheese.

On a serious note, if you touch it and then it sinks, you may be liable. If there's a patch of beach I'd beach it there and tie it to a tree...

We deal with the same here in Fort Liquordale.
Let it loose and you are responsible for whatever happens to the boat AND the damages it may cause.
(At least do it on a dark and stormy night when nobody sees it and it will blow far away. Bad knots on cleats can come loose, not your fault)
I live on a canal and have a dock, half rented out, half for me.
13 years ago some non-profit organizations taking donor boats rented my dock for a clean looking Morgan 38 sailboat with a brand new Perkins diesel.
After a few months the rent stopped coming in. The local rep said they will not pay any more rent (!)
I called the President or whatever he was and yelled in his ear that if dock rent with late fees was not paid within 2 days I would
start taking parts of the Perkins diesel and sell on eBay to cover dock rent.
Next morning there was a UPS Express envelope at my door step with the missing rent, and the late fee.
Moral of the story, help your self to the boat that somebody gave you..

I actually think this is the correct statute and it makes it slow and painful.

It depends on if the municipality has codified trespassing under their municipal ordinance per the AG opinion. You may want to contact FWC as well.

Call Kyle at Tow Boat US Bokeelia. He will be able to direct you to the legal way to have it removed.

many of these types of threads have come up in the past

key is to limit your liability and not blab about it

i would never just untie a boat and set it adrift but would consider untying and anchoring somewhere out of the way

i kind of like the idea of tying it up to the LEO dock but they will know it was you because you already called them

You don’t have to cut the lines....

Spend about 2 bucks on a can of Krylon, have a beer, and neatly spray paint the words “free boat” on the outward facing side.... ,it’ll be gone.

Wait a couple of weeks and there will be a new boat rebuild thread on THT staring the Krylon boat... which probably won’t get finished.👍

Cheers

Put up a sign: private dock, $150 daily dock fee. Put a lien on the boat to recoup unpaid fees.

You live, part-time, on an exclusive island which is accessible only by boat or small airplane, and you want to complain about the taxes you pay and being ignored ??

I know right? Complaining of taxation without representation. What kind of animal are you?

So he pays property taxes that includes police, the county takes his money but when he tries to get police help they won’t. You think he has representation? I would think deeper. Doesn’t necessarily mean the dump tea in the harbor for lack of representation type.

Unless you are being sarcastic, I am with the folk that thinks this comment is not fair to the OP.

If he pays tax and has the funds to buy something, it should be treated properly and not ignored. People who make more $ and pay more taxes should not get LESS response from government but equal.

OP, your situation sucks and hopefully somewhere in this thread you will receive good advice amongst the sarcasm and jest.

Did you check with the island club to see if they have any guests with the name you have for an owner? Maybe some cheap ass there doesn't want to pay dockage.
