Default Ballyhoo Are Thick! *Video*

The ballyhoo have moved in off the beaches and inside the bays pretty thick. A lot of my friends are always surprised when I get the ballyhoo in the bay, so I decided to make a quick video. Being able to catch ballyhoo in the bay is great because you don't have to worry about rough seas or going offshore to find them. You can hide from the wind and pretty readily get them on the inside when you find what you are looking for.

I look for:

- Frigates and pelicans working the area.
- Strong incoming tide
- Grass flat with pinfish in the mix to add a variety of baits.

I generally catch a dozen or 2 using hook and line and then when they are really comfortable I'll finish off the bait sessions with a couple throws of the cast.

No problem. Ballyhoo is usually my 3rd or 4th choice, but somedays it is my first choice. I love slow trolling them and see them tail walk when a sailfish is coming up....

Great video thanks for posting.

Its impossible to not not sound like a horn dog when talking about another dudes girl on the internet but it’s badass to see yours knows her way around the boat and helps with the bait. I’m slowly getting my wife more locked in to the boat and fishing side of things but she’s still a ways off.

Tight lines, bud.

Thanks! She is still learning each trip, but she loves to cook fish so that is part of her motivation to help me catch more

They say if you can catch bait, the rest of fishing is easy. I'm still learning myself. It's tough. Videos like this are very valuable. Thanks for sharing! I like voice over in these videos too. Really makes it feel higher production value.

You mentioned making a pilchard video. I would love to see that. *subscribed*

Nice work. I dig the cast net throw style. Name for the technique? I spend too much time resetting after a throw, you're style looks much less stressful.

I never knew the name. I hated putting the cast net in my teeth or over the shoulder and one day I saw my Cubano Amigos pancaking their nets in Key Biscayne. I watched them and figured it out when I was a young lad.

The entire net goes into one hand, so it does get heavy and tiresome but its a great way to throw anything under 12 foot.

Would be easier for me to make another video then explain in a message... I'm happy to do it.

I have used one. Works great, but I have no where to store the thing so my friend has it and brings it occasionally...

I prefer to catch them one at a time on gold hooks. I only threw the cast net because it was a late afternoon trip and I was gonna run and gun for mahi....
