Default Bahamas Spearfishing?

Does anyone know if your allowed to use a hawiann sling with the string attached? The rules aren't really as straight forward as they should be lol. I'm talking about something like what is pictured.

You will find different answers from different customs officers. I'd stick to equipment that is as close to the traditional definition as possible to avoid any issues.

I would guess that it would be allowed. There is no trigger. What would really be the difference between this and a break-away tip? Both are a tether. Of course, to be completely safe use the regular sling.

You’re ok. Trigger mechanisms are not permitted.

What's the current lobster limit in the Bahamas? I'm hearing two different limits, one being 10 tails per boat and the other being 6 tails per person???

My most recent sport fishing permit from 2 weeks ago says 10 lobster per vessel.

reels and floatlines are allowed for pole spears and slings

Well, the link posted by WPBTH (which appears to be an official Bahamas website) differs from the actual fishing permit posted by Kiwi Mike...that's the Bahamas for you.

Anyone know if there is any fishing permit needed if flying over and renting a boat?

You are good with that Headhunter sling. Here is a quick guide for the current regs...

Our viking actually has a different sportfishing permit issued in dec17 which has the old rules starting 6 pelagics per person and not the current 18 per vessel. Maybe the customs guy picked up an old permit pad? I haven't had one saying that since I first started chartering here 8 years ago

WPBTH posted from a third party site that has the old regulations listed. You can get the latest from the Bahamas official website but you will have to download the 2013 and 2017 amendments to get the full details.

Included in the boat rental since it is Bahamian registered and owned.

This is correct I believe.

That link finds its way onto this forum about once every three months or so and just adds to the confusion.
