Default New Port Richey area thoughts

So we have our ga property under contrac and made an offer on a condo with slip and lift in mariners way. My wife and I have looked at both coasts around 2 hours or less from our winter garden home.
Iam familiar with the crystal river area which is where we were looking but couldn't find anything that would work in our budget. We have fished out of Hudson a few times and been to tarpon springs a few times without boat.
My son found this place which is turnkey ready completely redone for an awesome price and our offer was accepted. Does anyone on here have much experience with this area and what are your thoughts ?
Thanks for any and all input.

We love this area of the state...

But try not to tell too many folks...

Just spoke at the local fishing club that is out of NewPort Richey and had about 30-40 people show up to hear me talk about fishing reel service..

The club is active and would be a great way to get some local knowledge .

20 Bimini Twist is on here a lot, Capt Troy Sapp, and he is local to this area as well...he would be another good resource.

Hooters on the Cotee River. Any other questions?

Seriously, a little more idea on what info you're looking for would help.

Been in Hudson 17 years and am happy.

I just googled the place...and from what I can tell it will be a pretty long idle to get out of there to the main channel that runs north of Gulf Harbors...

But once out in the Gulf, it gets pretty good.

Also glad Marlin 009 chimed in...he has some great local knowledge as well.

Just general stuff atmosphere bunch of old farts like me or some young folks mixed in. Curious about the fishing as well inshore and off. We have kayaks and 3 grand kids so I figured that canal system over there would be safe for them.
Also places to eat and hang out

Great inshore fishing in the area. Trout, snook, redfish, flounder et al.
The water gets deep very slowly off the coast here. To get the deep water fish can be a run.
Sometimes, some popular deep water fish aren't all that deep.

Canals should be fine for kayaking, we get a bunch.

It's pretty laid back.

Fishing is good inshore and off as long as the red tide doesn't creep in. Good sandbars for anchoring for beach days.
There are some scumbags / bums that stay in that area though.

It is a long idle out from back there. The traffic on 19 is horrible.

Aside from the long Idle you will have a short run to Anclote Key which is beautiful. The water stays fairly clean most of the time. Good fishing inshore and off but deep water due west is a long haul. Lots of old snow bird condo natzi's Back there. I rented a condo back there years ago and Had some kind of letter on my door every other day. I was once hauling some dive tanks up to my condo and someone called the fire department.

Last Friday in 28 feet of water. This is at Anclote Village Marina which has a nice little restaurant. Short run from Gulf Harbors.

The condo nazis probably have me the most worried. It's in gulf harbors. The long run doesn't bother me as fishing out of cr it's a haul out to deep water. But I have a lot of numbers up there in close. We usually run watching the bottom looking for stuff and sometimes troll the deep rapalas.

Back on the condo thing it looks like a nice area well kept and saw some fairly big boats. For the price we're paying if the nazis are to bad we will either just rent it out or sell and move on. We got a really good price I believe. We have been looking at both coasts for over a year.

If anybody has any knowledge on the condos in gulf harbors please chime in.
We are not loud and unruly but I have 3 grandkids from 5 to 11 and they are kids. They can be noisy. We will spend a good deal of our time on the water or at the beach. I have never lived in a deed restricted community but we will respect the rules and try to be polite to all.
The condo is on the third floor (top) and an end unit so we will only have one unit beside us.

It's definetly a diffrent feel from crystal river but the wife and kids really seem to like the area. I just want to be back on the water again we can find the fish

Make the best of it if you have a deal.

You will not escape the BS any more in Florida. I have lived here for 58 years within 10 miles of my current home.

I will never live in a condo. I would rather have a double wide trailer on 10 acres. That's just me. If the price is right do it. You can always get out and haul ass to some where. Plenty of folks to get in your slot when you leave.

Thank god you don't have to put your kids in the local to there public schools.

Gulf High probably has a meth lab in place of their wood shop.

It is what it is for the area. It ain't gonna get better would be my only warning.

Anything is better than Orlando in my book. My 2 kids went to UCF and FSU.

The UCF kid still can't drive without his middle finger out the window and is meaner than a hornet.

My FSU boy only hit a deer with his car in college and they skinned and ate it.

Your area in your OP is what it is. It is a matter of your tolerance and what your used to.

What works for me may not for you. Just don't f up and move in next to me.

I live in Tampa but keep my boat in NPR. Have had no issues. I have a 1/2 mile no wake zone to the gulf and it’s beautiful and quiet once out on the water (except for the sand bar). US19? We’ll I’ve seen quite a few things that made my head turn and jaw drop.
