Default 100's dead in the keys from the hurricane - rumor or truth?

Just heard from a friend down there that there were 100's of people who died in the hurricane that hit the keys... anyone heard this? She was saying that it's a big coverup, mostly undocumented workers and the reason the main road in the keys was locked down was to allow the national guard to come in and get all the bodies in refrigerated trucks and get them out of the keys before the masses saw it.

What do you think? Fact or bs? Haven't seen anyone reporting about it...

I have heard of 3 people that died in the state, one fell off a roof in preparing for the storm and another died when a chainsaw went into his neck. A third got electrocuted while trimming trees. I suspect that others have died that I haven't heard of.

I know one woman in Marathon died. Marci Rodriguez. She stayed in her trailer and rode it out with her dogs and other pets. A very nice woman that worked at the local pet store. My wife and I visited her every time we came down. RIP Marci.

BS. Despite the damages throughout the Keys, I have to tip my hat to the local and federal Government for a job very well done in preparing everyone and getting the evacuation underway as early as they did. This undoubtedly saved many lives in the Keys and all other FL coastal areas that were threatened.

Is your buddy THT member "LargoMar"? He is a huge breath of fresh air regarding the keys after Irma

Ditto here Dave. Personally speaking, I think 99.9% of the elected officials, disaster relief teams/organizations, infrastructure recovery teams and volunteers have been AWESOME! Both before and after the storm.

When you look at other places that have recently faced natural disasters, I think the Keys are by far a shining example of how to deal with something like this. Albeit, I will say that the ultimate test would be if we had lost just 1 bridge let alone multiples but thank God that didn't happen.

it's still pretty bad in the Keys. I was in Big Pine on Friday.

Here is a debris pile on US1 and there is still tons on the neighborhood streets.

I wonder if it's the same person that started that crap rumor after Hurricane Andrew. There were supposed to be mobile morgues using refrigerated trucks with hundreds of bodies. Total BS

Do you really think it would be possible to recover "100's" of bodies without some leak of intel winding up on the internet these days?

Why would they even try to hide the news even if it were true? It is not like the government did anything wrong as it told people to evacuate.
