Does anyone now when the shut the airports down. I was flying down this weekend for the Tampa boat show but I have cancelled that and booked a Thursday flight into Miami to get my mother's house shuttered up and drive her back up with me to the NC mountains where I live. My concern is if they cancel the flight into Miami.

If that pattern holds, the west coast of FL is going to be in trouble. We'll be getting out of town but I spent early this morning loading up on things for the aftermath gas, water, new chain for the Husky saw, 2" trash pump, etc. Also loaded up on Tapcons to throw the plywood up.

Should be OK for Thursday flight. Airlines usually start to reposition airplanes 24-36 hours out.

Yep, headed to the boat in Tarpon Springs in a minute. Extra lines, chafe guards and taking the Canvas down. Will give it another day and then the outriggers are coming off as well.

Yea, I have in water named storm coverage. I have only moved it one time when Katrina threatened the Keys and I ran to pier 66. The storm made a last minute jog and the eye basically came right over the top of pier 66 before it crossed into the Gulf. Ever seen sea grapes hit the windshield at 80 MPH.

No more running with the boat for me. These things are just too unpredictable.

Prep the best you can and if Cat 3 or better I'm out of here as I'm only 16 miles from the coast as the crow flies.

The major airlines will generally not cancel inbound flights until the point where they can't be sure they'll get the equipment and crews back out before the storm hits. If it helps I checked SXM (St Martin) which is close to the storm and at least as likely as MIA to take a direct hit in about 24hrs, and there is a Jetblue flight that took off at 9:20am from JFK enroute, as well as a flight from PTY and one from AMS.

So I'd hope flights would still be flying into MIA at least through Friday noontime.

I have a flight into Key West Sunday am
That is looking doubtful unless Irma makes a quick turn to the north

My biggest concern is WHERE to run to if it is coming towards us in the Tampa bay area - I live in NPR about 5 miles from the coast. My house is as protected as it can be (concrete block, new roof overbuilt, window and door shutters/protection) but if a CAT 3-5 we have to evacuate - and have a cat and two large dogs.

Do we head due east and hope to find a pet-friends motel? Head north up to my parents in Pensacola?

Its tricky at this moment. The models show it slicing Florida right up the middle in half. However, when it makes that turn, that will be the most important time to make a safer discussion. It if makes it early, we can run to the west, if it makes it late when can run to the east.

By Friday there won't be a single hotel available from central FL all the way to Atlanta! Dogs present a real issue, we have 3'and they are like our kids. So between dogs and other issues we are hunkering down but we are also 15 miles inland.

Pensacola may be in the path. Just don't know yet. Make reservations in Macon area and go before the roads get packed with the panicked and unprepared! By Saturday it will be too late and you will get stuck on the highway!

11am update 180mph winds gusts to 220 mph ....Time to get your boat secured and then to a safe place. The roads are going to be a nightmare.

I'm staying right here. I'm about 5 miles from the coast. Born and raised almost 50 years now. I remember when Charley was headed this way and my parents called from Orlando for us to go over there. We stayed in place. Glad I did. It made a last minute right turn and Orlando got hit worse than us. My parents were without power for almost a month...

Only thing I will do is sandbag my garage door because I have a drainage issue on that side of the yard.

That is a good question. We live in Ruskin, less than a mile from the marina, and will wait it out and see. At this point it is too early to evacuate anywhere since we don't know where it will go. Like you, we have a new solid house that we will prepare the best we can today. If we get a direct hit then evacuation is the only right thing to do in order to stay safe. We have prepared for our east coast friends to come here, and they have prepared for us to go there, we'll just have to watch it carefully.

To my South Florida brothers, please be careful out there. I am NOT talking about that big bad blowing bitch. I am talking about all the fornicating locos running around on the streets. Last night, everyone was calm. Today, people are in panic mode. They have to get that one last box of twinkies or everyone in their family will die, die, die.

Please be careful!

This is my main concern.......
I'm taking my riggers and any hardware that I can off of the boat today.

My original plan was to haul ass in the boat.... Not with this storm track....
I'll probably put it on land. Yeah I've got a spot. But feel more secure getting the boat the hell out of here.

The house.... You can't move it. We'll see how it does. Got new roof mostly new hurricane windows and garage door, but well board it up despite that.

Yall stay safe, I don't want to see a #FloridaStrong theme flying around.

Good luck to you man. I stayed in homestead during Andrew and it was the biggest mistake I have ever done. Hope it all turns out good

"Irma is now the strongest hurricane in National Hurricane Center records that is in the Atlantic Basin and outside of the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico," the NHC tweeted Tuesday.

BE SAFE EVERYONE!

Irma has become a bit less predictable... which is a good thing since she was suppose to go just south of Islamorada and haveing the 12 o'clock winds right in line with the house.

lets hope for the best for everyone.

Can any of you guys in the area provide up to date traffic in the keys. I have a friend who just left on a 13 hour drive to attempt to move his boat in Islamorada, if he gets there about 0200 will traffic be doable?
