I just got off the phone with Pinellas County on the west coast. Flood zone A is under a mandatory evacuation order effective 06:00 tomorrow. Flood zones B & C will follow on Saturday. They are urging evacuees to leave early and often to avoid the rush.

It will smoke and create some extra carbon build up. Dilute it with regular fresh gas as much as possible and have a spare plug or a way to clean them.

Just an FYI...don't forget that gas you guys have in your boats....

for Sandy I had about 150 gallons in my boat and feed generators for a ton on family and friends. '

Be safe!!

I volunteered 10x last night to come down and stay with him, or to book him a hotel room in advance, but he insisted he's okay and will leave when it gets bad.

Maybe this note about gas availability with help spur him to leave earlier...or at least have backup cans of gas with him.

I've been following news all day on the the SSS (Saba, St Bart's, St E), as well as US and British VIs....and it's awful. Real life commentary of waves of water 3 stories high and videos that sound like freight trains passing by (and I grew up very near an active RR track) The low lying areas areas around Red Hook St Thomas, multiple places on Virgin Gorda and Jost Van Dyke are completely flooded and homes in pieces. (good news is that St. Croix seems to have escaped the worst).

If you guys have any real life experience on how to get stubborn parents to leave in advance of storms, please share them....I'd love to know.

Thanks,

Techie
Don't give him a choice..jsut go get him!!! the sooner the better..leave work now

I agree totally about the 80yo dad. Some people get their priorities a bit messed up. Sometimes they just don't wanna be a burden on others. Screw that!!! FishHarder is 100% correct. Go get him. Go get him now. Give him a certain amount of time to grab some stuff, then you load it into the truck and take him someplace safe.

If you cannot get out of work, call him now and tell him to get his stuff prepped now cuz you are pulling him out at ___pm tonight.

"Dad, please do this for me. I am already worried about the wife and kids. I don't wanna have to worry about you somewhere else, so tonight you come here for the duration."

I went down to Islamorada to secure my property Tuesday afternoon. Wanted to get in and out before any road closures. The signs on the Turnpike said 11p Wed southbound would closed to southbound traffic. Traffic was moving fairly good in both directions. Mostly tourists towing boats north. I did not see any of the large boat dealers moving any of their inventory north. All the usual restaurants were open. Gas stations had gas. Most of the conchs I know there said they were staying put. Don't know why they would as it will be a miserable place to be if it hits there.

Went to pull my boat out of the water early this morning only to find 2 boats in front of me had already cross tied and another in the process of cross tying. When i went to explain that had to get through one in particular got aggressive with me telling why i waited this long. This is thursday morning at 9am. They finally aggreed to slack up the lines and let me through, but i got stuck on the last one. Homeowner was not home and i had to cut one line. The reaction of some people watching was as if i had commited murder. Any thoughts on this?
