Had a friend lose a dolphin on the surface to a Goliath in 65' of water off Stuart, so its not just bottom fish being eaten. Hit it on the surface like a mega bass hitting a popper. they kept getting broken off or bent hook when they ate their reef fish, so they dropped a blue runner down on the anchor line and handlined one to the surface. Boy's hands couldn't even hold a rod after that.

Before the ban, we used to eat the smaller ones. That was so long ago that I cannot remember if they had a distinctive flavor. After the ban, you could not find a rock pile in Florida bay that did not have a nice size one in it. They do love the spiny lobster, and finding the bugs in the bay was very difficult even at the beginning of the season.

Eaten many of them. You use to see several restaurants serve it in place of grouper. Cut em up in small chunks, fry and you wont be able to tell the difference from a grouper.

These things definitely need to be thinned out. They're everywhere! The lionfish are eating all the baby gamefish and the jewfish are eating all the adult gamefish.

I do plan on attending at the Plantation or BIll Jacksons to see how I might help with input. WE free dive regularly the Suncoast and Nature coast, and periodically the Keys. I don't know if it'll accomplish anything but you never know unless you try.

Those who insist on red-alert vigilance in these matters can now fuss over, of all things, the newly named goliath grouper.

See, Goliath was that evil Philistine giant who was killed by a stone from the sling of David the shepherd boy. And how long do you think it will take the Philistine lobby to now claim victimhood because David was . . . Jewish?

Yes I thought the Chicago website was a bit strange as well. The interesting part was the Jewish leaders comments.
