You'll likely be a bit lost at first but it doesn't take too long. PM me if you need any specific help.

Here is one of my really old hobby sites. Reminds me of how little time I have these days as I prep and plan for retirement. https://littleboxguitars.com/

Super simple design and layout. You'll likely find the graphics and photography to be bigger challenges than writing and posting content. A good phone camera and Photoshop Elements will get you by on most of it but creating graphics has more of a learning curve than Wordpress blogging does.

Once you've unleashed it upon the world, update us.

Get your feet wet at Wordpress.com

Sign up for a free account and do everything you can there. Play around. If you break it and can't fix it delete the blog and start over.

Once you're comfortable then you can get your own hosting and install your own copy. Or don't and just use the upgrade features at Wordpress.com to host your site there. If you host it yourself you'll need to learn backups, how to fix things when a plugin or something else gets hacked, upgrades, and such.

What's the blog he wants to start? Something to make $ or just for his own fun? That kind of dictates the direction you should go.

There are TONS of tutorials around. If you don't want to go that route open up to working with someone remotely for tutoring. There's lots of help available if you look in the right places but very few will want to work onsite since it's all web based anyway.
