Default Staying in St. Pete and need some fishing recommendations

My wife and I are staying in St Pete from 3/3-3/6. Never fished out there before and I was wondering if you guys could/would recommend some places. I have a 20 foot bulls bay off shore boat. I can get in fairly skinny water but I don't mind going a little ways out either!

Thanks in advance.

I will be using the old search function a bunch too but was hoping to get some recommendations on locations, bait and whatnot.

I would hit the flats around fort desoto park. You'll find some protected water around there. If it's calm you could venture offshore. Troll the shipping channel for kings and macs. May still be a little early but you never know. For bait you could try the castnet or sabiki at the marker in front of the pass at pass a grille or around the skyway bridge. You'll see the guys out there.

Thanks, I am going to be around fort desoto park. I think I am going to put the boat in a wet slip at Tierra verde. Hopefully I can find some fish. Weather is turning a bit. Winds look like they are kicking up Saturday.

Yes, it is going to pretty windy here this weekend. Good part about where you are keeping the boat is a lot of intercostal, flats, canals and mangrove areas where you can stay out of the wind and still have some good fishing (snook, redfish, trout, flounder, sheephead, mangos). Just would not plan on venturing offshore, the Gulf will be pretty sloppy.

I had to look.. would have bet it was Mons. Need some serious leader to fish from that location.. never mind the freighter or cruise ship activity.

Op - Been a fair amount of activity around the grass flats just south west of the Misner bridge and I have also heard the Sheepshead spawn is going so they are on fire.

Why serious leader? Is there a bunch of structure that could break line? What's the deal there? Bottom fishing?

Sorry.. I was being sarcastic. If you drop the coord into google maps it's the very center span of the sunshine skyway bridge where the shipping traffic comes through including Cruiseships. Check out my post right after that related to inshore. In addition target sheepshead around rocks and docks and bridges. Think the tidal flow this weekend has softened which should help.

If you are bottom fishing the south west side of the skyway fishing pier has a ton of bridge rubble 50-100 yards off the fishing pier. Be very cautious anchoring there as its known as a anchor graveyard. Reef rig, if you are able to.

Yeah I didn't plug the numbers in so I had no idea where the spot was. I threw some artificial stuff today around those grass flats and didn't get anything.

Might try some sheepshead fishing.

Thanks guys!!!
