Default Marathon july 4th

Guys I'm thinking about making our first keys trip from NC with the boat this July were getting a few people together and heading south hoping to do a lot of fishing snarkln lol . What's going on in marathon July 4th? I've done some searching on here and know we've gotta try burdines for some fries any other good points of interest. Day trip to key west should we drive or boat? Hope to hit some of the lighthouses like alligator and sombrero

There is a firework show at somoboro beach ,as well as several other areas, bars. We fish at the reef at nite ,and enjoy looking at all the fireworks up and down the area. Good reef fishing if current is running,as well as offshore, but mahi were absent last year. Temps in 90's so get a place with a pool on the east side so you're in the shade in the late afternoon. Key colony is the best place for rentals but several homes for rent in marathon. Stores, bars, restaurants, and everything you will need and only 50 miles from key weird,so you can drive your car, ride a bus or boat, makes for a very long day, by boat. Several great dive sites and looe key is a easy hour or so ride from marathon. Don't forget the brass monkey,a local dive bar, wink wink.!

I am usually there a couple times a year. Snorkel Sombrero reef. I think Keys Fisheries is the best restaurant in Marathon. It's not fancy, but the food is great. Fishing may be tuff. As another member said the night snapper fishing can be good (chum, chum, and chum). If you can get to the Humps early or late there may be a Blackfin Tuna bite. Anything floating offshore may hold Dolphin, Triple Tail, or Wahoo,

Try homeaway.com or VRBO.com for rental. You can set the parameters as far as how many bedrooms, bathrooms, dockage, etc

We will be down that week. We are staying in Coco Plum. We stayed in Key Colonoy 2 years ago. Plenty of stuff to do in the area. Hopefully fishing will be good. Sun Downers is always worth a trip as well.

Don't go too far south on Friday or you'll have to leave someone to sleep in the boat overnight else you might wake up to no boat or at the least no motors or electronics. Problem is if you don't make the keys by 9:30 am you'll be in slow moving traffic all the way to Marathon. You are better off going for a shorter day on Friday & a very early start on Sat.

That's what I was thinking. What's the safest southern part to stop in. Does FL have any diesel emissions? Or will I be fine in my deleted ram

Truck should be fine.

I would plan my trip to be getting on to US 1 "Homestead" at first light or earlier Saturday morning. If not, your gonna have a long day Saturday. Lots of folks come down on the 4th. It was really crowded down there last year. Good fireworks display at Sombrero Beach.

Fishing should be fine on the reef for Snapper both day and night. Hopefully there will be some Mahi around this year. Last year was not so good

they choke down to one lane each in Key Largo for the parade on the 4th. Clear there by 8 am or traffic is a nightmare
