Do any of you guys ever troll with a spinning rod in the Shimano 6000 to 8000 size range? Recently been seeing more photos of people trolling with this set up.

I have and actually prefer the softer loading of my spinning rods for hooking up and find the fight more enjoyable (and easier for newbies). However, the line twist is excessive and noticeable after only a few trips. A 20-30 lb class conventional setup is a better option for maintaining the integrity of your line.

I use 8000 Shimano’s with 50 braid and 65 wind ons. If you run them short with ball bearing swivels and plain Islander JR’s they run without rolling. You will be surprised how many you pick up on them and how big a fish they will handle.

Roffs had an interesting article recently about the sea temperatures and how it affects the phin migration. Link below to read full report which I recommend, but bottom line is that the migration will be late this year based on water temperatures.

Gatorfisher , great post ! Thank you for the headsup on the "Roffs' report". It was very "techy", very detailed, but extremely informative.

Of particular interest was the section on the Bahamas "Blue Marlin Water" concept.

Thank you again. Capt. Billy/Right Stuff

Team "Get the Gaff" will be headed out on Thursday. The window weather and my work schedule actually lined up for a PDO.
