Default 3-17 report

Left port 7:30. Headed out to N Pelican to 140 and put lines out and headed east. One knockdown-Bonita. Nothing after that.
Started at 140 and out to 400. Strange the water was black vs. the pretty blue. On way back in it turned blue around 150-100 temp at 140 was 76.4. Saw a few flyers and scattered weeds out at 250.
Should have headed back to 140 for some bottom dropping. Was rougher coming back than it was on way out.
Oh well, next time

Headed to Titus II and dropped at 220'...caught small 24" Mahi about 45 minutes in. Couldn't find any trailers. Long weed line and rip from 230' out to 460' + and plenty of people trolling. Didn't see anyone catching,

Went out to 460' came back in to 230' and almost same spot hooked a big sail. Jumped and spit the hook.

Talked to a few guys at the fish cleaning station and they where out further working the edge of the stream and they caught a handful of peanuts Mahi.

Weather was beautiful and the seas were calm. Got yelled at by a local, so I guess that completed my day.

Ran to the cones Saturday. Cleared the inlet by about 6:15. Great weather on the day. Trolled 230-450 water column with only one schoolie. Heard of some gaffers being caught in the 650 column. Had a buddy trolling same column as I who put one gaffer and 4 schoolies in the box.

Cleared the inlet by 6:30, had one knockdown at 215', nice gaffer jumped a couple times and spit the hook. Trolled a few more hours between 250-350 and nothing. Headed to do some bottom fishing to finish out the day, heard of a few guys catching fish around 275 on the radio.

Fished out of Sebastian. Trolled from 100' to 700' without a knockdown. Deep dropped for a limit of tiles and ran back into 300'. Trolled from 300' to about 100' hitting several of the weed lines with a sail being our only knock down all day.

3-18 update

Mahi was the target species on Saturday- mission accomplished. Cleared the inlet with the weekend warrior armada around 6:45am or so with 30 rigged bally's. Surprisingly nobody else ran due east with us.

We started trolling around 160ft heading east till we saw some sort of change- temp, rip, weedline, or bait. Around 475ft after talking to some people around that depth and no bites we turned and headed west trolling.

We came upon a scattered weedline around 285 and had a knockout after five minutes of trolling and 1 slinger Mahi in the cooler. Reset baits and another mahi hits the deeper bally and mahi #2 hits the cooler. Reset the bally's again and another mahi hits a bally and mahi #3 in the cooler. Reset again when we get swallowed up by a pack of mahi's. Quad hookup and mahi #4 thru 6 hit the cooler as one spit the hook at the boat. Continued to work the area over the course a hour or so landing mahi 7 thru 9.

Finished the day going 9 for 17. As we lost a bunch on spit hooks about 45 seconds after hookup. Also had 10 short strikes by either a wahoo or king slicing the tail's off and a sail that pulled the bait off a couple times. We never left that weedline as it meandered between 275 and 375 on that ridge and we never crossed it either. Saw numerous free jumpers throughout the day, too.

I saw 2 other boats hooked up and didn't see anybody else. I tried to help out people on the radio letting them now where the bite was. Some wanted to stay out deep, but they didn't get much as I understand.

On the way back in tried to get a cobia throwing to about 6 turtles, but no takers this time.

Got back to the ramp at 2:15pm.

Ended with (2) gaffers and (7) slinger mahi's in the cooler.

At the cleaning table most people either struckout or only caught 1 or 2.

Boat looked like a murder scene as I couldn't clean it before we hooked up again. Blood everywhere and ended up having to throw away my jeans from blood and 1 giant rip.

Lost my lucky hat on the ride in, but felt it was appropriate for the fishing gods hooking us up.

Finished the day at 7:45pm. I was so tired, because it never stopped. Driving home and on 417 almost fell asleep because of it.

Sorry for the lack of pics as it was just my dad and I, but this is my coffin box.

Capt Billy- around 76.6.

I haven't been that tired in a long time. I drove the boat, manage the rods, reeled in a bunch of fish, and boated everything. Mt dad was driving while we trolled keeping us out of the weeds as best as possible and I did everything else.

I like to talk on the radio as I'm not much for keeping silent. If I'm on fish I'll broadcast it I may not give exact coordinates, but I'll give depth range. The ocean is big enough that we all can prosper from its riches. Wish more people were like that on the water.

What weather website are you guys using now that the noaa sight is basically worthless? I'm interested in Port Canaveral if that matters.

Lightning, thank you for the temp. answer.
You deserve to be tired. I too, are always willing to share info.

I generally fish out of Sebastian, sometimes run north. Let's keep in touch.

my boat. a 29ft blackfin with tower, is called "Rifgr Stuff 3 " I'm usually on channel 68.

You're always welcome to jump on board if you want to fish waters south . Take care, Capt. Billy

I just use NOAA and Wind Finder and take the averages. Wind Finder seems to have more useful information.

We left out of PC around 8, decided to let it warm up a bit. Headed out NE to around 400, couldn't find anything but scattered weeds. Ran back down and in and trolled the cones. Listened to the chatter on 68 for awhile of a couple guys doing well on a rip around 250. Pulled up and headed back out and finally found a rip with light weeds on it. Trolled south for awhile with no luck. Headed north even further and just about to call it a day when we had our first knock down. Decent mahi in mid 30's length. Continued north and not much longer another mahi in the box. Boxed a total of 5 for the day, no monsters but at least we had some fresh fish with decent filets. Seems like they would only hit naked hoos' and way back. Called it a day around 3. We ran 120 miles Saturday and burned 41 gallons. The ride in was like a lake, only thing that kept me from running wide open was the air temps.

J Lightning, did you fish out of ponce or PC?

PC

Do you have a single Comp. Swore I thought I saw you trolling around us, but couldn't clearly make out if you had a Comp sticker on the side. It was a Comp or an older Contender not sure.

They hit everything, but Iland Sailure Blk/ Org and a Pink Sea Dart.

Hot colors were yellow/ green and white/ blue.

The bigger mahi threw up in my cooler and he had a big flyn fish and a small bait about 4 inches that looked like a pin fish or grunt.

I came in around 38mph
