I got out on Tuesday. The seas were still a little bumpy until lunch time when it flattened out. I started out on 8A trolling lures and minnows. I ended up with 12 kings in the 32" to 38" range by 11 am with several more coming off at the boat. Hooked into what had to be a massive shark on a live blue runner. I could not turn him and after 450 yards of line came off the reel (rather slowly) the wire broke.

After filing the box with kings I ran offshore on the slim chance there would be dolphin. I ran into a group of schoolies with no takers. Found what looked like the old weather buoy all beat up with wires trailing in the water due south of where its marked on my GPS. Did some bottom fishing and caught some red snapper, sea bass, puppy sharks, tiny kings, and a hammerhead.

Not a bad day on the water.

It's a bit early, but I'm looking at this Sunday if the conditions stay like they are. Any reports of rays or cobia yet out there?

From the sounds of it, not yet -- but should be any day now.

Still looking at Sunday. Hopefully I'll have a boat full of cobia to report. Headed south over Pelican Flats and and the PAFB area.

Nice. Good luck. Sunday is looking like it's going to be a pretty great day.

Still haven't heard any cobia reports yet, but it's nice out so perhaps I'll head down to the dock and turn on the VHF and scan the fishing channels for a bit to see if there is any good chatter.

Prepped the boat, purchased bait, and pulled it out of its spot. Walked around the backside and see 2 oil like drip stains on the bracket. What's this.

Well it looks like I have a leak in my oil feed line. No offshore for me.

Bummer.

I went out to Pelican Flats. Confused chop in the morning, laid down beautifully in the afternoon. Tried to troll for kings with some diving plugs in the morning but my crew was too ancy to drop to the bottom for jigging. Caught some small lanes, sea bass, random assortment of snapper in the 12" range. Nothing particularly fun.

Headed in towards the coast and zig zagged back in at around 50' of water looking for cobia and rays on the way back to the port. Saw nada. Oh well, maybe next week.

Had to call it an early day because of afternoon plans. Would have loved to stayed out there on the water hunting for rays. It was a beautiful day.

Went out nearshore Sunday since none of my regular buds could go, decided to take my parents with me. Found some scattered bait, handed Mom the rod and she proceeded to get hooked up on almost every cast. Tons of small seatrout, few blues and a few spanish. I also had about a 40-45 lb cobia nail a trout as I was reeling it in. Fought it for about 10 minutes, but it broke me off, probably since I was trying to steer the boat, fight it, and grab the gaff all at the same time(Mom and Dad aren't exactly expert fishermen/women or boat operators!). I had one other on for only about 15 seconds before it spit the bait. Didn't see any rays jumping. Didn't have any other shots at em to speak of. I wouldn't say they're here in numbers yet. It was beautiful out there, and my parents had a blast, so it was a great time.

Also to note, had FWC check out my catch for the first time at the PC boat ramp. No issues over here, just felt noteworthy as it was the first time in my 6 or so years of fishing out of PC.

Good news- engine is ok. No leak. Still in the break in period and until this passes oil may leak out of the throttle body as it doesn't generally use up everything when running this rich.
