I didn’t approach and gave them lots of room but was curious as to how people fish them? Hail the crew on VHF n ask permission?
I was always reticent about fishing the shrimp boats for the same reason...didn't want to get in their way and didn't know how close was too close. Until I went on a tuna fishing trip to Venice last year and saw how those boys get right on the ass of the tuna boat between the two nets on each side (literally within 20' of the shrimp boat as it's dragging nets). Since then I've done the same thing a few times with shrimpers out of Ponce. Slowly pull right up behind them, drop into neutral and throw out some live baits as the shrimper pulls away. Never had a shrimper say anything to me other than to ask if I wanted to swap shrimp for beer.

Had a hunch about the viz today. Turns out it was accurate. Strong NNE wind cut the day short or I am sure we'd have had a 3 person limit based on first 2 dives. Beautiful day! Been 2 months since I dove.

Chad, are you , by virtue of the photo , indicating that you had just one beer, or are you using the beer can to demonstrate the size of the bugs ?

Nice catch Chad. You know how to enjoy the ocean even when fishing conditions are questionable . Capt. Billy/Right Stuff

Great info on the shrimping boats. I've seen them hanging out before, but didn't venture over. I'll try next time.

Thinking about heading offshore on Saturday- what does the THT brain trust think of the weather forecast?

Maybe we can get several boats together to try to tackle an area.

Trolling- really need to restock the mahi in my freezer?

I would love to go as I have not been out since the ars season weekends.I have to find the time to do so work to the boat and we are getting ready to move next weekend.
Good luck and lets us know how you did.On a side note how long do you keep fish in the freezer before it goes bad and you throw it out.

Fishing the KOB or I would be game. Appears to be some stable weather end of week, so the weekend could be on fire. Good luck.

As of tonight, looks like it will be messy according to NOAA. SATURDAY...Northwest winds 10 to 15 knots becoming north in the
afternoon. Seas 4 feet. I was thinking about driving to Jupiter Saturday, but that looks like too much of a gamble at this point since the wind is predicted to pick up mid-day.

Dogslife- if I vacuum seal it a year. It ain't going bad when frozen and sealed, may have some freezer burn but that just makes it drier. Either way so much of what we eat is fish tacos as the wife and daughters hate spicy food. I load it up with peach or mango salsa in the little soft taco boat with rice and black beans with a little sour cream, mmmm good.

So KOB tourney? Where is that being held? We are thinking about heading out on Friday for some bottom fishing...do y’all think it would be worth spending some time trolling for mahi? If so, what depth would y’all suggest putting lines in?

I would start around the 160ft mark or look for temp break.

Thursday and Friday are your days to go. I'm heading out Friday. By 1PM on Friday they are predicting 20 knot winds I dont think I want to be out when the front rolls through.

I’m guessing he meant Saturday was predicting 20 knot winds not Friday...?

Beautiful, absolutely beautiful weather day. We put 6 nice dolphin and one blackfin in the boat. Couple cuda's and there were bonita crashing everywhere. Phins (and most of the action) were mostly around 170' and also hooked up a couple at 250'. 9:30-11:30 bite was on, then shut off until about 3:00, when we picked up a couple more. Phins on ballys with chugger heads and blackfin on the WWB / Billy bait. Bait shop said 8A was a "parking lot" the day before (wednesday) and there was lots of life, etc...around the 70-80 ' depth zone, birds and bonita crashing the surface...
