You might want to change the thread title. Most folks might miss the topic.

This is very ugly for Bahamians. The Bahamas government sold the country cheap.

Now being refuted, but it wouldn't surprise me. Smoke means fire.
We have had a couple forays by the Chinese in partnership with Politicians
for long line fishing, and it is my understanding there are a couple Chinese
"fish Factory" boats hanging around way down south.
Common knowledge but the Defense force stays clear.
Wonder why.

My problem is not the foreign investment in the Bahamas. In fact, I have advocated more foreign investment, but not in the Bahamian fishery. Bahamians know how to fish. They are damn good at it and are maintaining a relatively sustainable fishery. The Chinese will just fish it out and leave.

One locust isn't a problem... but a swarm will consume everything in their path and just move on. It's what they do.

History has many lessons

This has all the makings of an environmental and ecological catastrophe, which will probably finish off already struggling Bahamian and Caribbean reefs and fisheries. What a shame!

Where way down south? Windward? The defense force was letting the Dominicans on the bank for a little while, but then they did not make a payment and there was a shooting. Since that incident the Dominicans have not been seen..

The Chinese are in Andros and are currently buying live lobster, they just want more but always remember the casino in Nassau. The Bahamians keep shyting on China...

Foreign investment wise we have been fleecing bottom feeders for a while,
as they have us.
South of ragged, south of Long Island.

Chinese are already digging a port on N end of Abaco towards Foxtown, for what I have no idea

This statement would make even US Politicians proud
"#“There is no proposal from the Chinese to the government, of which I know, there is no response to the Chinese government or investors, of which I know, the Prime Minister (Perry Christie) doesn’t know so we don’t know. I don’t know what this is about.”

Lol

I don't understand how we can run a $40B/month trade imbalance and yet people are surprised when countries like China buy something with that money. Do you people think they keep it in a mattress?

Low information voters are killing our country vote by vote.

That was one of the problems with Baha Mar. It was a year late and the Chinese couldn't get the last 3% completed or pass inspection. It drove the original developer bankrupt. Now the Chinese owns the benefit of the developer's $1 Billion. Pretty slick way to steal a billion $. Of course the original developer should have known he was sleeping with the Devil.

The lesson from Haiti rings loud,
being allowed to "purchase" their independence from France (at the point of a gun)
in 1825, they proceeded to strip the land of all resources for 200 years to pay the debt, leaving them nothing.
The Bahamas has no land, but to allow China to strip the Banks and seas of any and all seafood
(including things not considered food in the western hemisphere) is National suicide.
It should be of great worry to the U.S, being so close.
The economic lessons from Jamaica Vis a Vis Currency devaluation is also at play.
Being the only former British Colony yet to collapse is small consolation, but was only deferred due to our about face from Mother England to Miami in the 70's.

The Bahama's is the test... Cuba is the "prize".

China is the bail out nation. China is flushed with dollars.
