Default Anchor rode and chain questions

I have a 2007 Glacier Bay 2640 SX Renegade, and I live in Key Largo. I have a Lewmar Profish 700 installed on the boat. I have a few questions pertaining to anchor rode:

The splice between the chain and the rode is is looking pretty rough, and after 9 years I am thinking it is time to replace the chain and rode.

I am trying to decide whether I want to get 200 feet or 300 feet of rode. I currently have 200 feet. I occasionally anchor in about 50 feet of water for fishing, which 200 feet will handle. Anyone with a 26 foot boat carry 300 feet? Recommendations?

I currently have 3 strand rode, but I am considering replacing it with 8 plait. For those of you using 8 plait with a windlass, what are your thoughts?

Thanks!

Go with the 8 plait its a dream to handle on both your hands and through the windlass

8 plait is the way to go. IMO you can never have enough rode. The only question is, will your locker accommodate more rode. If the line won't free fall into your locker when you are pulling anchor, it will become and issue for you.

I must be missing something... the Medallion 8 Plait and the G4 or BBB appears to be way cheaper on Defender. I'm about to buy 25' of BBB and 300 or 400 ft of 8 Plait... with them doing the connection and a whip at the end and it's still cheaper...

Before I order from Defender... what am I missing?

'yer welcome.

I just didn't know if I was looking at something else... I called and spoke with a young lady at Defender and she was spectacular with respect to customer service. I just have to decide if I'm doing 300' or 400' of rode. I've settled on 25' of chain... but still in the air on rode...

I don't remember what brand they use . I've been using them for 5 years and what ever it is , works fine .
you can go to there website and order whar ever combo u like . I also sent them 50' of old chain and ,they spliced on what I wanted .

they also now sell premade on ebay slightlhy cheaper then they're websitre if one of those combo's works . plus on ebay I didn't have to pay sales tax or shipping.

once you go 8 plait you never go back .

Thanks for all the great feedback!

I currently have 200' of 3 strand and 15' of chain.

I ended up ordering 220' of 8 plait with 30' of chain. I like the idea of the additional chain. I don't know of anyone (who has a windlass) that said "I wish I had less chain!"

I ended up ordering from Dark Horse Marine.
