Default Port Everglades fishing thread....

The Boca/Hillsboro fishing thread gets a lot of posts and a lot of good info. I wanted to start a similar thread for those of us running out of Port Everglades. So I will give the first report....

Went out yesterday and trolled up a couple small blackfin and one bonita. Lost something big on the planer, spit the hook, but was running like a wahoo. Drifted with googs for about an hour in the afternoon with nothing. Girlfriend felt a little sick in the 2-4's so we headed in. Fun day.

Went out of PE Saturday. Wanted to get out to the stream, but after about 750 the weeds were non-existent. Ended up on some scattered weeds about 15miles out and dropped in for a random blind troll. Picked up nice gaffer bull on a pink/white islander and ballyhoo. Cow showed up, but she wouldn't eat. Trolled around a bit more with no results and headed in for a little deep drop. Got a decent vermilion on cut squid and nothing else we wanted to keep would bite. Admiral was sleepy so we decided to head in. Got two decent blackfins trolling back from steeple on a little pink and blue artificial.

Nice day out on the water and nice mix for dinner.

Fished from PE down to Tavernier today. A little bumpy offshore, but we stayed reletively dry.
Bunch of knockdowns between govt cut and key largo. Finished the day with two keepers for dinner and exhausted from the run down.

Trolled from PE to Haulover this morning. Lots of life, and weeds. Weeds start at 300ft all the way to 1000ft. Almost impossible to troll.

If you fish tomorrow, you better drift live bait instead of trolling.

We hooked a 15lb dolphin, and another 2 dolphins scholies that we put back in the water.

I was out this past Sunday, I had my girls with me so I did not fish but there were weed patches and flying fish all over from PE to Commercial peer. Anyone have any luck? There were plenty of boats out there trolling.

Trolled from PE south this morning, weeds everywhere from 150-700ft, did not make for a fun time. No fish. Set up to drift some gogs through the weeds and had two knockdowns. A couple guys that trolled by me said they had nothing too. I think summer is upon us

Fished out of haulover this morning tons of weeds with some nice patches in 400. Drifted and live chummed for 2 hours only saw 1 dolphin and he jumped off. Good luck to the guys going tomorrow!

Went fishing out of Hillsboro yesterday... I know, it's not Port Everglades but it's close enough...

We saw weed lines all over the place... We also saw plenty of bait fish practically on the surface...

We drifted some with live gogs - no luck...

We slow trolled some with live gogs - no luck...

We drifted some more somewhere else (where Skipper saw bait on the surface) - hooked and landed (leader was touched) a big sail fish within minutes... Video and pics soon on the thread... http://www.thehulltruth.com/florida-...ng-friday.html The fish fought for about an hour and then the line broke... It would have been released anyway... Don't kill what you don't intend to eat...

We slow trolled the weed lines some more with live gogs - no luck...

Then we trolled the weed lines with dead pilchards, teasers and artificials - no luck though one pilchard had been bitten off just behind the hook...

Then we went closer inshore to try and land kings - no luck...

Weather was great, we had one good fight so all in all it was a good day!...

Went about about 15 miles east of PE today. Took home 7 keeper dolphin from trolling in some scattered weeds we found. Tried to do a little bottom fishing up by the steeple but there was a diver every 50 yards it seemed so called it a day with the dolphin in the box.

Dolphin were caught on ballyhoo with islanders or sea witches. Pink/white, blue/white, red/black and solid pink.

I feel your pain Navatech. Fished Friday, out right at sunrise. Weed everywhere, drifted livies in 400'.... Nothin. Headed further east, would come across a lone frigate, troll, livebait, chunk, chum, topwater, vertical jigs, bucktail jigs, naked skirts, ballyhoo.....nothin. Saw a marlin just swimmin slowly 10' from the boat, clear as day.....nothin. Ran 20 miles east.... Nothin. Waited til late afternoon for tuna bite using everything we had.....nothin. Still better than a day at work tho!!

No pain at all!... I was just reporting how things went... As far as I'm concerned everyday you wake up is a good day and everyday I get to spend on the water is a great day!...

In fact, people set out to sea several days in a row specifically to hook a sailfish and return empty handed so I consider the day a success even in that respect... Heck, if I wanted fish for dinner that bad I'd just go and buy the damned critters... Cheaper (by far) too

Anyway, Skipper Gentry (Carolina Gentleman) is thinking of going out tomorrow... Contact me or him directly... Small party only... We're not looking to crowd the boat so only one or two spots left!...
