Went out late afternoon, a bit too late. I had to stop for gas and Harbor Towne was close, so had to drive over to Lauderdale Marina.

HST for wahoo. zero bites. Although I found to mark on the yozuri.

I was flat like a pool. Came back in, picked up the ladies and enjoyed dinner & drinks in 20' of water off Las Olas...

Sailfish are currently chewing. There's a charity sailfish tournament out of pier 66 and top boat has 12 fish!

I think if you are on the rising tide you should be ok. The channel is well marked just past state road 84. However, I'll let others chime in.

Regarding the Dania cut-off canal... beware of a large oyster bar/rock right after the west entrance. It sits right in the middle of the channel, and on low tide can sit just a foot below the surface. There's also a low and narrow bridge farther east that can get tricky with a ton of current.

My boat's at the Lauderdale Small Boat Club just past I-95 on the canal so I run the canal all the time. My Pointers;
The bridge at Federal can have some really strong current during the rising and falling tides.
Make sure your outriggers and antenna are down. You will only screw this up once !!!.
It's only wide enough for one boat at a time so be careful and power up as needed to fight the current. Pay attention and you'll be fine. However, it can be intimidating the first time.

it definitely rips through there at times. ive rescued a kayaker clinging to the rocks just west of the bridge.

also a boat following current has the right of way through that bridge.

I went out twice in the past week before the wind started blowing and found the football blackfin both times. Nonstop action, could have filled the cooler. Kept 5 the first day and 1 the second because I still had so much in the fridge. First fresh fish dinner in a long time!
