Saturday was the Ladies portion of our club's dolphin tournament. 27 lady anglers brought in 340 pounds of dolphin. This is encouraging as it's the boy's turn on Saturday. The catches were in about 800 for the most part. Based on this, I think they are finally here. I do believe that the more commotion behind the boat, the better. I troll 6 to 8 baits and teasers as well. I also carry cut ballyhoo in a 5 gallon bucket just in case. However, as this is a tournament, I'll skip the small schoolies and target the big guys for the most part. Bigger ballyhoos and bigger lures. It worked two years ago so it's time to kick some ass again on Saturday. I'll let the gang know how it goes.

Weeds started at 80 feet, we found Mahi at a bigger patch at 600. Mostly peanuts, but we did got some keepers.

Went out SE to around 1k feet and worked a big circle to Boca and back - Lots of small peanuts under broken up weed lines...

Found a nice triple tail for dinner... back to the dock by 11am

Seas were like glass

Out of Boca today
Plenty of big weed mats 400 ft out to 20 miles. Problem is deciding which to fish. Trolled a pretty fishable line at 18 off and got into a school. Unfortunately most were just below legal. Daughter and I kept 2. Headed out all the way to 28 and didn't see much. Spun back in and eventually came to the same general area as before w really nice mats but nothing except a cuda and jacks. Had a fun early fathers day none the less.
Good luck if you go.

Bigger fish are going to be deeper in the column as it heats up. Drop a vertical jig & work it FAST!

Default Pe 6/21

Ran out to 43 line with scattered patches everywhere saw a bunch of boats on the way out but didn’t see rods bending or fish jumping.

Trolled around for hours with no luck. Finally saw Mahi jumping by a patch and they just wouldn’t eat the trolled bait (skirted and naked ballyhoo and a pink daisy chain) or pitched bait (squid and cut ballyhoo). There were only a few that we could see but they looked like heavy lifters.

saw a couple small tuna schools out there too, but didn’t chase them.

made our way back in and some decent lines were forming. Trolled a few weed lines and saw some peanuts swimming around but nothing hit the lines.

came up to our last decent patch just before the color change at about 850ft and there was a school of Mahi that showed up (about 25-30). Unfortunately they were small, so we kept 2 and threw the rest back. Keepers were about 25inchers, but most of the school was just shy of legal size. At least we got a couple and had some fun before we came in.

the weather was great. Super flat conditions but very hot.

Sorry, didn’t get pics

It was like that on Friday. Nice weedline, baits swimming nicely, flat seas and nothing. I think I'll wait a while because it hasn't looked good out there. Anyone doing better than me and funfish?

same thing Friday. Went out to about 950’. Worked our way back in. Had some small peanuts chasing our lines back in. Nothing other than that.

Same Sat and Sun.
Beautiful days out there.
No fish. At least not by my bote.

We found them on the 44 line 1750ft on patches. They wouldn't eat chunks or squid. We went through 3 dozen pilchards and kept 2 dozen fish. All between 22-26 inches.
trolling produced nothing. Hopefully the bigger fish move in but I like the smaller fish for eating.

We caught a 238lb bluefin off Hollywood on Friday morning whilst out swordfishing.

Also had a big school of peanuts around us but only got 2 before they dissapeared.

I thought the season is closed on bluefins in the south Atlantic waters?

Man that's a lot of sushi! Awesome catch. Saw a report of a nice yellowfin caught on this side too!
