Default Key Largo

Well, after 2 years in the Ft. Laud area, we made the decision this weekend to move our family boat to The Marina Club in Key Largo (Blackwater Sound) for one year. Found the place to be nice and friendly with reasonable rates. Now need to get myself familiarized with the area. I know the offshore fishing spots but need info on where to go with the kids on the bay side ie. sandbars, islands etc. Our boat is a 30' cc w/twin outboards. Thanks in advance for any tips from locals or folks that know the area.

Ocean Side we go to the North side of Rodriguez Key to float on the noodles and maybe have an adult beverage. Normally go there after a day of fishing oceanside. Also Grecian Rocks is a nice place to hang. Lots of folks in both places there on a nice day. Bayside,,, a lot of folks go to Nest Key (I haven't been there) back in the park. I understand it's really nice. Don;t know how much water is there for your rig,, but I suspect enough. The wife's been bugging me to go.

BTW,,, kept my boat at that marina while I was waiting for the lift to be installed. Nice folks that run the placee.

Have Fun!

Gilberts has that fun zone beach while you and the Mrs have a drink at the bar.
Run north to card sound bridge and goto Alabama Jacks.
Usually I just go through Adams Cut and take a left to go out Garden Cove area. You can anchor at that concrete barge in front of Capt Slate's place or find a couple coral heads on your way to beautiful snorkel places inside of Carysfort.

Hit up Snappers back bar for some cocktails and pig wings ...

Tell the bartender named "Dude" that the guy who orders "Bacardi Select with a ginger ale back" sent you..

and come down SW to Islamorada for some nice cruising grounds on bay and ocean side..

I moved my boat down here 15 years ago and best move we ever made..... Paradise every time we come down ...

Enjoy the Keys ...

Just checked the Marina Club website and my AVG anti-virus said a virus was blocked when I did. Be careful.

Rodriguez Key on the Ocean Side and Nest Key on the bay side (be careful with the horse flies). American Outdoors in Buttonwood Sound also a hang out place. Had a little problem in the marina a couple of years ago (repairs) but they treated me nice and took over the bill. Several restaurants have dock space (Gilberts, Big Chill, Snappers, etc.)
