Lost the fish. Brutal. Ok reset the lines... had the planer running a pink/white islander hoo combo. 2 longs and 2 shorts with bonita strips and seawitch/mylar combos. Blue/white and pink/white. I hear one line take a bit of drag then Baam big fish on. We're thinking it's a wahoo... few minutes later we have a big sailfish to release. Awesome. As I'm putting the planer out, I see a mahi jump out of the water with the pink/white hoo. Fk! No way I'm losing 3 fkn mahi in 1 day. That's the planer rod. I reel it back tight as fast I can, get a gaff in it and dinner is secured. Stayed out til 3pm bite died off after 1.

How were the weeds today?

Scattered. Soup around 100 out to 300. Clearing lines all day. Pain in the ass. Later in the afternoon there was a decent weed line that formed around 3 miles out, lots of bait, flyers but didn't convert any fish off it.

Had heard a few bigger Dolphin had been caught 15+ off lately. Got a casual start at 9 am from the dock and wound through the canals on way to the inlet. Settled in for a nice cruise at 38mph and off we went. 8-900 feet was littered with skipjack. Set out some small feathers and played with them for a bit. There were some decent rips/weedlines around but no flying fish. Skipjack were feeding on small bait. Fun to see them jump out of the water. Got tired of playing with them and went in search of our dolphin. Was 23 off and didn't see much. Headed in at a NW angle and found what were were looking for in 13-1400 feet. First pass was a small dolphin. Ate a pink/white chugger. 22 inches so we let it go to grow. Second pass, we see a Frigate 30 feet in the air heading our way. Just knew what was about the happen. Right rigger with a yellow sea witch/ballyhoo combo snaps and we are on. Solid cow around 10 pounds-but spits the hook 15 feet from the boat. We kept the boat in gear and as soon as the cow jumps off, the bull hits the left rigger (pink and white rubber squid over a ballyhoo). Solid fight for my 16 year old and a 27 (27.2 at the dock) bull comes over the side and into the fishbox.Seas started picking up and weedline were were on starts breaking apart. Headed for home-Back at the dock by 2 pm.Bigger ones seem to be keyed on larger baits. My buddy got a 32lb dolphin last friday in the same general area on a ballyhoo.Good luck everyone.

Going to be staying in Hillsboro the 1st week in April, and bringing my boat, which is only 23', so I'm hoping for some calm days.

I fish the Big Bend, so trolling for dolphin, wahoo, and tuna is foreign to me. I'll be following along here, if any of you feel like tossing out some tips.

I have some deep diving plugs, but no planers, downriggers, or outriggers, so I'll be limited to a 4 line spread, and can't go too deep...

As long as the wind/weather isn't too bad you will be fine. You can teoll outside the reef line in 120-300 and catch all species mentioned. Your fishing within 2miles of shore so you don't need to worry about making long runs that time of year. As far as planers/riggers, they are not necessary. If you want pm me I'll give you info as to how to run your spread.

Went out of Boca today. Plenty of scattered weeds. Made it out as far as 15 miles. Not many dolphin around all the weeds. Found one school all day around 12 miles out and caught 2 small schoolies.

Went out of Hillsboro yesterday. Trolled 600 to 800ft, then in the 100 to 250 range from south of the inlet up past Boca. Scattered weeds all over with no real formation. Nothing for our trouble. Buddy of mine was flat lining Pilchards and bottom fishing. If not for the bottom fishing he would have been a bust as well.

Cleared boca inlet around 8am. First fish in the boat 9am... wahoo. Hit a #4 planer with a pink/white islander and a ballyhoo in about 100 feet right out front spanish river. Hour later another strike on the planer. This time it's a keeper mutton snapper, 25". Me and the 2 other guys are stoked at this point. Got a big cuda on the planer a short while later then bite died off. Came in at 1pm.

I'll be down in 2 weeks, but just found out I'll have to bring my Skeeter 20 Bay boat, which means I'll need some pretty calm weather to go offshore.
I was pretty excited about getting some blackfin or kings, and now that looks pretty unlikely.
Where can I fish in the intracoastal or up in Lake Wyman? Worthwhile to anchor in the inlet and fish on the tides?

No problem fishing a Bay boat if it is a decent day. Remember in this area Kingfish/Blackfin depths aren't that far off of the beach. 3 miles puts you in 550'.

If it's a good day, I'll definitely go out, just hoping for other options to fish if I cant...

Not sure about Lake Wyman but if you put a mullet down in the inlet Tarpon and Snook are a possibility.

I wouldn't hang out in Boca or Boyton inlet ever... let alone drop an anchor. Asking to end up swamped, on the rocks, or worse.
