Haven't had much luck finding gags, reds or kings as of the last few weeks. Took this past weekend off. Tons of bonita on top but couldn't buy a kingfish for some reason. Snapper, grunts, black seabass, etc. etc. on bottom. Fished 40-60 feet but water was cold.

Could someone take a look at the screenshot of the Simrad NSS Evo thats posted on the previous page. I also have a Simrad and theres always green under the bottom. Where with the other machines posted there seems to be empty space (blue background) where the bottom is soft which is helping you guys distinguish the harder areas on the bottom when you see white under the bottom. I can't ever remember seeing the simrad show empty space under the bottom. It just always seems to color the area green.

Hopefully someone understands what Im saying lol

Yes getting out in a nice weather window has been tricky. But we have been 30 to 40 miles out in 125’ of water and my best catch this year was a 30” Mahi. Almost zero bottom fish hooked. Rag’s

If you're going offshore 30-40 miles and not coming back with any bottom fish you're doing something incredibly wrong. If you do the same thing and expect different results it's not going to happen. You need to start by going to public numbers and looking at your machine and seeing the difference in structure / bottom. Then go to well known hard bottom and compare to sand off the beach. Until you do this you'll just be aimlessly wondering around out there. Also, 4-6X zoom is your friend.

Also if the numbers you are fishing are the same every time, they are probably fished out... Need to explore on every trip

Hello everyone. Read all 20 pages of this thread and now I'm playing with my two machines. A GPSMAP 5208 (B175)and a echomap 94sv (GT41).

When zooming, how much of the bottom should I look at 5', 10', more or less?

On zoom I like to look at 5-10' above bottom but I like to see at least 5-10' below bottom also. I split screen and look at both sides.

Ragtop, if you're running that far and burning that much fuel, it hurts not to catch any bottom fish. Are you looking for any bottom type in particular? Hard bottom with ledges? Soft coral? Soft bottom with holes? We're about to push out some new charts at StrikeLines.com for federal waters that will show bottom types and interesting features. If you're having trouble finding spots, you might find the charts helpful so keep an eye out.

In pic #Garmin , you do not see a continued return below -5 ft on the left side and see a continued return to the bottom of the screen on the right side.

In pic #Simrad , you see a continued return throughout the MFD with the light green color.

I have Simrad and always notice that there will be that strip of red return and under it is filled with the green. Is it just that the bottom isn't very hard in my general area or am I ready wrong ? Or is there a way to correct that. I like how the garmin just doesn't display anything unless its hard.

I apologize if my terminology is off and I am confusing anyone. Im barely hanging on myself

Thanks to those I stole the photos from lol
