Since First saw this, I thought was a cool idea. It's the type of adventure I'd love to sign up for, especially on the sponsor's dime. It would be fun to race one direction and then take your time back and enjoy what you flew by.

I know the guys on the YF team; it looks like fun, but it sounds absolutely brutal.

Still amazing to watch Team HB from 2019 after they sheered their jackplate, remove the engine and jackpplate and reinstall the engine all while the boat was in the water in under 25 minutes.

They run their 17 models, for sure KW runs the 1720. I believe Sea Pro is also a 17.

Criteria is basically max 70 hp and 22 gallons fuel capacity. There might be a length max but if not the HP and fuel cap takes care of the size boat cap.

Sea Pro is running a 172 custom made for the event with a smaller tank than what normally comes from the factory.

18ft is the max hull length.

Hope the winds stay low for them, as they come around looks like someone turns the fan back on the 10th and 11th be intereting if they stay on the outside up the East coast... at least by me in south florida the manatee zones are starting to end now that it's after 3/31 so you can go faster than idle / up to 25 mph if you have to run the inside.

I'd sign my 170 Montauk up in a heartbeat and just need a couple different stickers on the decal and take a few gal out of the tank lol

It's too bad more manufacturers don't get in on this. It's a great cause and good advertising.

I am not sure if it is still the case this year, but several skiff manufacturers in years past have stated that the entry fee to join the race is steep (It was $5,000 2017..not sure what it's up to now) and other than a small pocket of the internet, it's not that much advertising.

You mean selling 17' boats for $60,000+ each doesn't provide enough profit to shell out $5,000 to directly target your customer base? I'd have an easier time buying the excuse of "I just don't wanna drive a skiff 1300 miles in shitty conditions". Because that would be my excuse.

That's because it's by semi invite only. If you are to small they won't let you join. If you aren't a manufacturer you can't join. and yes the entry is $5k plus you provide the chase team.

If they actually wanted to grow this event then it should be open to anyone who wants to participate. I tried a few years ago and got turned down. It makes no sense, outside of a few websites like this no one knows this is even going on because of the restrictions. It's not even covered by any news channels that I've seen.

The Angler skiff has dropped out so we're down to 4 boats. Probably just as well from looking at the boat on their website....
The Key West and Sea Pro entries are really just mini bay boats that won't perform well with only 70hp, I ran a KW 1720 with a Yammy C85 back in the 90's so I'm real familiar with the hull.
So it's Yellowfin vs Hellsbay again. My money's on the Yellowfin, how bout you???

what do you mean invite only? If you have $5k to donate, are a manufacturer and wanna run you’re in right?

Nope. Only if your a manufacturer of size. Boutique builders aren't allowed. Anyone who has a qualified skiff should be allowed to join.

My friend Jason will be one of the captains on Team Yellowfin. There is no way I would beat myself up doing this, but he is in his 30’s and is crazy enough to enjoy every minute of it. Good luck to all of them.

Love me a YF vs HB dog fight! I think they both use this as an excuse to make a boat that is out of the box thinking to test products and new things. They get the bragging rights if they win. Nobody is real competition. That key west 1720 would need the 90 on it to run. Mine ran 48 I think with the F90. It’s a heavy boat for this game. But would be comfy
