Default Deep drop habitat in marathon

So weather looks good. Was thinking of trying my luck at deep dropping.

Snowys and blue line tiles look closed.

So I was thinking I would try to get some queen snapper.

What kind of habitat do they like? Any suggestions on what I should be looking for? Bait preferences? (Was thinking whole squid)

Anything else I should try to target?

I have a reel and some tackle from blue action tackle.

I need to run to the store and buy one of those fancy seaqilizers.

ThankS for all the help

8-900' with a lot of weight depending on current. Can always run into mahi or blackfin out there as well.

Hiring Piner might be a good idea.

In the Bahamas we find them in 1200' using squid.Look for good bottom/structure.I also found that draging bottom worked better than the usual weight tapping bottom.

I’m also an anti people person even before covid and outdoors zero issues. DD in marathon takes practice and patience.

Good luck out there. There is a pretty large area off of Marathon where deep dropping is prohibited. You would not think it is prohibited because it is in the middle of the ocean. The picture below are the four corners of the prohibited area.

Thanks for the heads up. I have seen you post that in other posts. It is a good reminder. Do the navionics charts have it as a no fishing zone?

So are you going to send me a list of really good fishing spots to go with the don't fish zone?

Navionics does have a red-checkered box around the no fish zone. Some other charts do not. Sorry, but my fishing buddies would kill me if I started sharing the deep drop spots we have found out there.

Got back to the RV park today, from getting covid shot. Guy went out DD monday and got stopped by FWC 30 miles out. Told them they were in a closed zone . It was the East hump area. Boarded boat, ran his info and since they had just started looking , gave them a warningand showed him the 3x10 mile area that's closed. It did show up on his charts ,so now he knows. He did get a sword in another area. Said he will update his charts and closeures.
