Default End of Year Keys Gettaway - Help Please!

We are planning a trip for the end of the year in the Keys and are looking for feedback.......

We have never been to the Keys and are researching to find the place that would offer the most of our stay with family/friends. Currently there are 3 couples going, however an additional couple or two may join us.

Below is a list of the things we would be interested in, any insight to the area/charters/local fishery around December/boat rentals/etc would be truly helpful. We are very excited and looking forward to this trip very much!

* We will be arriving week of Dec 15 and leaving the following week prior to Christmas
* Fishing half day trips a couple days is what I am thinking? Not sure the season or what to expect that time of year there?
* Snorkeling - Will the water be warm enough to enjoy something like this?
* We would like to have the ability for restaurants, shopping, and maybe a spa day for the ladies, beach access......., boat/jet ski rentals?
* What are the absolute must do activities in the Keys while there? Best restaurants? Breweries?

Any tips, do's/dont's would be greatly appreciated! Thank you all in advance for your input.

Tight Lines,

A few questions:
Hotel type rental or house?
Where in the Keys?
Are you looking on the cheap? upscale? the absolute most decadent?
Age range?
Assuming no kids?

BIG Don't drink and drive.

Where in the Keys? In or within reasonable drive to Key West (Uber, Lyft, Taxi's readily available for these commutes?)

Age range? - 35-42 age range

- Buried my best friend due to this. Won't happen, Assured.

Thanks for your response!

In regards to the water being warm- really depends on where you live. Born and raised in Miami, you won’t catch me in the water, but beaches are packed with northerners.

You can check off everything on your list in Islamorada. There is no way I’m getting in water that cold in December, but Pennekamp is not far away in Key Largo. You can snorkel in Islamorada, but if you’re that close to Pennekamp, I would go there.

FL Keys Brewing Co. is locally owned and their beer is brewed there with local ingredients. Islamorada Brewing Company makes their beer somewhere else.

Tons of great restaurants there, lots of shopping (for The Keys), spa day at Cheeca or Islander Resort.

We only go to KW a few days a year because it is not “The Keys” as the locals know it. KW is too much of a shit show. If I had to stay there, I would find a place in Stock Island.

Cold and windy. I’d get bored in Islamorada, Marathon etc with basically no fishing and too cold to snorkel. Go to Key West.
