Default Monroe Roadblock Saved my Life

No joke...but not because of the virus. If not for the residents-only checkpoint our family would have been on Cudjoe since several weeks ago. Yesterday we were prepping the boat and getting ready to arrive on June 1 when I had my heart attack!
IF we had been on the water in the Keys when the heart attack hit instead of here at home I might not have made it.
(I’m also glad that as a tourist I didn’t have to be a burden on Monroe’s local healthcare system.)

Bypass surgery is scheduled for Friday, and that closes the window/slams the door on our annual Keys trip, first time our family will miss since 1977.

God is good and we’ll be fine, but we’ll miss our family time there, and will have to wait till next spring to fish and boat and relax and spend money in the Keys.
On the other hand, we won’t be abusing the resources and the aisles in Publix just might be a bit safer for the locals. (JUST KIDDING... trying to use some sarcastic humor to get through this!)

Everyone, tourist and local alike, needs to appreciate the unique natural opportunities in the Keys and respect each other.
Whether because of an Act of God or act of men, “you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone.”

I like your outlook and my thoughts are with you for a successful surgery and a return to the water.

Maybe if had been in the keys you wouldn't of had a heart attack.

Wow Bert that is terrible. Prayers already sent up with more on the way. As I believe we are near the same age and I’ve got my issues with HBP, this is pretty shocking to me and quite an eye opener. I know how much you look forward to your annual Keys trip I am sorry you will be missing that time with your family after more than 40 years of going. (Yea we’re missing our trip too). But the tarpon will be a little safer til next year anyway.

it is amazing how things work out sometimes. I am trusting that with the skill of the doctors and precautions being put in place you will come out of this healthier than ever. I was looking forward to meeting you in the Keys this year but there will certainly be next year. Take care, take care of yourself and You will certainly be in my thoughts and prayers.

Glad to hear you made it through. No better place to recuperate than in the keys. Maybe go down for a few weeks in August to soak in the vibe.

Wow! Never know when it'll strike, glad you're still with us brother. Prayers for a speedy recovery and smooth operation. You know, if you need help with that Cudjoe stay... I can move some things around and make sure that property and dock don't remain vacant.

Good thing it did happen at home, you might of been transported by helio to Miami , since the hospital is almost shut down. And that would of been a heart attack with that bill. Get well and be careful of the heat when you do get to the keys.

I had a heart attack last July fishing offshore Stuart with my 14 yo son and good friend we met here on THT, it was a very scary situation. God speed to you!
