Default Did our Dolphin have the Covid?

I wanted to ask if this is something seen before, first for me in 30+ years of catching dolphin. This was a 15lb bull caught out of Sebastian yesterday. Throughout both fillets were hard to the touch, dark yellow calcium type deposits. I ended up throwing the whole fish away. It wasn't worms or parasites, very weird.

It smelt fine, but had a milky coloration to it. Fish was iced immediately too, just strange. I tossed it.

I wonder if this is something that the FWC would be interested in?

Subscribed. I've never seen anything like that either. We caught about a 25lb cow once that had been whacked by something. Open wounds on the skin and in the meat. Looked possibly like a shark took a swipe at it before we caught it. It looked like it was infected and had an odd odor. We threw it away.

I had one similar last year off of Boynton early in March, meat was a strange color of white and very soft. Fish was caught and iced immediately as well. I also did not eat, fed the turtles in the lake.

No, never seen that. We did catch a 15 lb cow once that did not fight. Like at all. Filleted it and the meat was a different color than the rest.Chucked it.

I usually toss the ones with discolored meat (whitish). Those also typically don't fight very hard. In my experience, this happens in older dolphin, and see it mostly in the Spring.

Can't speak to my fish knowledge, but in many reptiles if they get injured (from another animal, predator, etc) their body can wall off infections to just the area of impact so as the entire body doesn't get septic or go into necrosis. Did you happen to see any prevalent scars or signs of injuries on the skin/scales externally? I am curious as to if fish may be able to do something similar, but again, have very little knowledge about fish infrastructure!

Fish can get tapeworms and other parasites. I think you were wise to toss that one.

Cut a random # of 350M Americans open you’ll find some nasty chit. This is no different. Throw it out and carry on. There’s not a pandemic in the ocean.

This is a very common type of parasite in dolphin, can’t believe this many people haven’t seen it before

I have seen it many times. If there bad the fish is sick and it shows in the fight. The meat is white and mushy.
Toss It!
Have seen it in BFT as well.

I've seen it, if they come right to the boat with no fight I just let them go.

Caught a 20-25lb cow last summer and filets looked identical to that. Fish didn’t fight hard at all and we tossed the meat
