Default Blue Hole off Marathon

Neighbor in KCB smacked the cobia and said he was in the blue hole 40-50 miles gulf side. I didn’t want to ask for specifics but he mentioned the BH is on the charts. I only see on off captiva. Is he making shit up?

No. There is one that the guys running from Naples to Marathon and back hit down and back.
I’d happily PM you the # but I was a guest on the boat and don’t know it.

Happens every year. The number is no secret. Once the word is out it get beat on big time in nice weather. I would give it to you except I am not near my book.

Man I done gave up on the gulfside on my yearly trip to Marathon. I totally get it and understand why its so protected from the locals and so on. Its so awesome to be able to fish the gulfside when the atlantic acts up. Im always watching the guides down there run out in the gulf and do some numbers. Ive ran blind, thought I found this or that on charts and so on but always struck out. Now I just make it a land day when blown off the Atlantic instead of burning fuel for nothing on the gulf

So it does exist. As dialed in as I am marathon to tortugas I’ll admit cobia is elusive. My PM is empty just waiting for captain Greg to fill it up lol

It is real, and I hear it is good. I have not been out there personally, but I bet the co-ordinates are in my GPS.
I could never share the co-ordinates unless I verified they are accurate. (Note to self I should go out there someday)

Real good spot depending on the time of year. Big bull sharks circle the perimeter. 10' and larger, one drug my 36
foot boat around for a few minutes.

There are plenty of wrecks 40 to 50 miles out into the gulf. I have heard of the Blue Hole but never been to it. I may actually have the number.

If you have even a small wreck out there you will have cobia and permit on it. Many of those spots were highly guarded but with the newer radars very few are top secret these days. The biggest thing is that it is a fairly long run and only a few charter operations had the equipment to make the run. These spots are seeing more and more pressure as there are plenty of fast boats now. The 2 Conchs have been fishing those spots for years.

Caught a nice permit there a few years ago. We hit it on nice days from Marco Island it's about 50 miles from there.

What a great thread...years ago there was always a large sea turtle on this spot. I have not been since 2014...not sure if it has shifted with the storms.

Stopped there this summer on return trip from San Sal on a friends Viking. Lot`s of permit and small cobia. Plenty of loggerheads hanging around. They say at times there are massive schools of tarpon hanging around. A couple of guys free dove it but viz was pretty crappy. They refer to it as "spooky hole".
