Default Overdue CC - Anbody knows about this?

Saw this on Facebook just a minute ago. It was a repost from a closed group so I can't post a link.
Anybody with additional info on this?

All BS above.

There is no replacement/substitute for a EPIRB.

Yet, the argument goes on and on about alternatives.

Some of you guys really disappoint me.

You aren't worth $450 to your family?

I'm pretty sure the reference to the inreach and spot was for the guy who said a crew members wife got ansy they were a tiny bit late and called coasties too soon.

Possibly.
Accidents are never the result of one event or issue as has been proven and posted on this site, time and time again.
A) I don't need no stinking PLB/In Reach, it's only over to X and I have done this a million times before without issue.
B) I will have my cell phone, I am only going to X spot, 6 miles off the coast.
C) I just did a service on my engine, new filters and everything.
D) Other boats can hear me if there is an issue, it's like a highway out there.
E) I'll only float to Jacksonville, they will find me.
F) I don't want to spend $400.
All sound plausible, but in this day and age there really is no excuse other than stubbornness.
Don't do it for yourself, do it for your family.

How exactly do you know how much money I’ve spent on safety gear or what safety gear I have?

I never realized how not having a Garmin Inreach makes me such an inconsiderate family member. Thanks for your priceless wisdom.

correct but I have a spot trace so wifey can log in and see where I am. Saves the "where are they call"
also PLB, extensive ditch bag, etc.

Just wondering.....aren't there some free Apps out there that will track your phone's GPS? It seems Spot trace is expensive just to be used for tracking in the ocean.

Don't you need cell service for that?
How will that work if you do not have service?

GPS on the phone. As an example, I used Google Maps that displayed my location all over Scotland where I didn't have cell service. It would show my location the the map for driving. I thought there were several that use these apps that hike and such. Don't know why it wouldn't work in the ocean also? Maybe I'm wrong?

Nothing wrong with having additional means of communication at all. It's smart!

If things get bad I want my needs conveyed directly to the coast guard asap.
And by means that are supposed to float, are waterproof and will transmit for at least 48 hours and are designed to do nothing more than get you found.

Safety can come in layers. The more the better.

They can tell you your location, but cannot communicate it by any means if you do not have cell service.

I don't think there was any suggestion in here that there is a substitute for epirb, but non emergency communication is a nice thing if a trip gets derailed. Don't want to flip the switch on the epirb to ask the CG helo to tell my wife that we had to fish a bite that we just couldn't pass up.
