I was there in July, locals aren’t happy, for sure. I can’t imagine a bunch of tourists in their tourist buses or whatever they are getting transported in driving up and down that skinny island . Sucks.

The closest thing is Princess Cay which has had Cruises for a long time. There is literally nothing else on Southern Eluthera.
Island is not too skinny down south and not many places for the busses to drive through.
Also, there is plenty of deep water on the west side of the island. Cruise ships have been anchoring there for years.
I would think that the dredging necessary would be minimal for a pier.
Overall, if they do it with conservation in mind (unlikely) it would be a big boost to the economy of eluthera.

Where exactly were you since there are no real towns on Southern Eluthera.

When I was in Rock Sound and we drove all over the south. Met tons of locals, spoke with them...
They are very pragmatic about it. They know Disney will destroy where they live. But the also know that without the dollars, they won't be able to live there forever. So they'd rather stay as long as there is somewhere to stay.
The short game is very good the island. The long game is horrible. Unfortunately, most people need to live for today - not tomorrow.

From the sounds of it this will be a second private beach for their cruise line. The original beach, Castaway Cay, does not transport people away from the beach other than for fishing excursions. For most of the excursions they employ locals so this should be very good for the local economy.

Are they also going to rush one of their ships over to the Bahamas to house, care for and transport the thousands that undoubtedly need it?

You're correct. The section of Lighthouse point is further south of Bannerman town (the last settlement on the island heading south) -- Princess Cayes is south of there (where the current cruise ships anchor), then Lighthouse is further south down a difficult, rocky road. It probably takes 2 hours in a 4X4 to get from Rock Sound to Lighthouse.
The locals are split -- fair arguments on both sides. I doubt there will be any significant dredging and Disney will run tenders to some docks on the west side.
I take my boat there often from Savanah Sound -- one of the most beautiful beaches in the world but almost no visitors.
