Sounds like the typical problem with unemployment in Florida. There are jobs but you need skills. Do you offer any on the job training for people who have basic aptitude and skill but not specific Yamaha credentials? If so it looks like a great opportunity for a job that is not going to get shipped offshore. Good luck in your search.

Thank you for the response.
Almost everyone here is trained by us.
Glass, electrical, engine tech.
We supply and pay for training, Mercury, Yamaha, ABYC, etc.
We are looking for people we don't have to train, at least the basic's, even that is hard.
Then we train them, certify them, and they leave to go off on their own, etc.

I feel your pain and I know one of those guys. He is good enough that the dealers hired him every season and freshened up his certifications. Then he worked out of his truck the other 8 months or so a year. The last I heard he had found a dealer who keeps him on full time and pays enough so he will stay. The reason I knew him was he had several regular customers here in my neighborhood doing the hourlies in their driveway every spring when he was off. They are all disappointed he is gone.

I see various job grades being referenced in the postings, is there a pay scale that follows that can be shared?

Do you have any "No Show Job" Positions Available? If not I would be willing to a "Limited Show" Position....I can show up from Time to Time to tell you what you are doing wrong! I'm good at what I do!

I can start a position, I think you would be in the back of the line.

I think that is what we will need.
- Applicants file, we call, email, can't find them.
- Set up one interview, 0930, at 1300 we get a call. (This is a new one), "Power went out in my building, so, my phone died (alarm) and the (land line alarm) didn't go off". Remember, this is South Florida in summer. One would think the apartment/house would be damn hot and you couldn't sleep.
- Another, did the interview, said we do drug and background checks, no problem, we do our due diligence, offer them what THEY WANT, set a start date, no show.
Yup, we need some luck.

Hehe how hard is it to get a Canadian a work visa!! As my day job disappeared 4 months ago thanks to our federal government... and I look outside and there’s an inch of snow on the ground.... Florida sounds great.

A guy can dream can’t he.

My experience hasn't been difficulty in finding good techs and mechanics, it has been finding ones that can pass a drug screening.
I know most can cheat the test so I ask immediately. "If you were tested right now, would you pass?" Most are honest and it saves the screening cost.

One thing that will help eliminate wasted time would be to simply post what a position pays. Then you will quickly find out what type of candidate you can expect to attract and retain. If you are still having a hard time attracting and retaining good employees, you can adjust the pay and benefits accordingly or hope to get lucky with a good worker willing to work for less than they are worth on an open job market.

I have heard a number of companies no longer care if someone tests for pot. Other things is a different story.

It made sense to me. Training people to do a specific task is different than training someone to show up on time every day and put their tools back when they're finished with them.

Every company has a set of it's own standards, even in the industry some shops will do things differently and want it done a certain way. Training can mean any sorts, not just certifications. Good luck Parker, it's a tough world out there for employees. If you weren't on the East Coast I might send a resume.
