Default Florida Keys - Which one?

We are planning a trip to the keys next summer and wanted to hear of some ideas of where to stay. To give you a little background, there will be a couple of families going with boys in the 15-19 yr old range, plus a few family members popping in and out throughout our stay. Most recently we stayed at the Mariners Club on Key Largo and loved it, pricey, but we loved it. Location for boating was great, we were able to go off shore in the morning, stop back at Mosquito Bay (i think it was called bay may be reef) for some afternoon relaxation cocktails, next day we could snorkel John Penny Camp or any of the close reefs. Seemed like a perfect location but I wanted to hear from others who have more experience in the area. For next summer we are wanting something a little more affordable but not looking for hotel rooms and would prefer a "resort" style property with units that have 2-3 bedrooms, kitchen, living and dinning room, along with a nice large resort style pool, boat slips on site, close in proximity to good snorkel / dive spots, sandbar meet up spots, some good bars to go to a night or two and a bonus would be if we could bring our dog. I was thinking Islamorada or north... but I'm open.
Thanks for the suggestions

I know you mentioned Islamorada north , but we have a place in marathon and LOVE the location . Everything you mentioned is easily accessible , not to mention if you want to head to key west it’s about an hour drive each way. Public beaches , ramps , publix, Kmart, liquor stores , plenty restaurants and bars. Just outside marathon is sombrero beach light house beautiful snorkeling spot and you also
have sombrero beach if you decide to not take the boat out . Good luck!

You can have a great time at Blackfin Resort in Marathon. Nice mom/pop old school Florida hotel with marina and a ramp. Banana Bay next door same thing, more $. Depending on boat size many more options including hose rentals. Reel Therapy covered everything else.

OP...do a search on Key West, tons of threads with page after page of info. Just watch for the dates so that you get the newest info! My vote is also for islamorada.....Centrally located, has everything you need.

Depending on your dates for summer, our house has everything you could want, but it's already booked for next June, July, and August up to the 14th. The link is in my signature, there's lots of other properties on the website if you want to check them out. Good luck!

Not Key West, especially if your taking kids, sometimes KW makes Vegas or NOLA look mild and you never no when it's going to happen. My suggestion is any of the other keys, there all really nice and friendly and are a great time

WTF are you talking about? Fantasy Fest is the only time I would think twice about bringing my 4 year old downtown, and we know when it is going to happen every year. Key West is very family oriented with some of the friendliest people you'll ever meet, yet we get judged for what happens on a single street one time a year.

If you have a boat that you are trailering there, I might suggest Futura Yacht Club in Islamorada (sounds expensive but its just a condo with a marina basin, not too expensive). You can launch and keep your boat right on property, rent whatever size unit(s) you need. Very nice swimming pool, tennis courts and beach. It's on the Bayside. Walking distance to restaurants, within driving minutes of everything there. Your boat is safe with everything aboard, it's gated 24hrs.

We no longer stay there as we need 4' of draft but enjoyed ourselves there many many times.

There's a woman that does the bookings for many the Futura condo owners and takes care of the details for everyone. She will have options for you. If you are interested, PM me I can dig up her contact information.

That place looks pretty cool - having on onsite ramp and trailer storage is key.. can you launch a 25'er there?

Mariners was our goto for years but since the restaurant blew away we switched to the Marina Del Mar/PortLargo Villa area. This is a much livelier area with places you can walk to for food and drink.Great access to the ocean as well.
