Default FL Gun shows... any good?

I was under the impression that gun shows would be like boat shows, a once a year kind of thing, but I kept seeing some banners and signs all year around.

I'm trying to make up my mind about a couple of guns and can't find them anywhere near to go take a look at them, feel and compare them.
I thought a gun show would be a good idea when I came across this:
https://www.floridagunexpo.com/about-us/

They seem to have one EVERY month... it makes me wonder how good it could be...

Has anybody been in one of these? Any good, or just a waste of time?

FL Gunshows are great! You can check out many different firearms, find some great deals, meet some great people. Always go when they come to town even if I'm not in the market to purchase.

Short answer, you can usually get a better deal there than in the shop. Best deals are on the last day, in my experience. It's a place to see and handle a wide variety to see if they fit you. Usually somewhat better pricing too. Suggest you walk all the way through the show looking for your specific make/model, to see if someone tucked away in a corner etc. may have a better price. Often the guy in the least likely spot will have a better deal to offer. Also great place for knickknacks, WWII items, stickers and books. I go often, whether or not in the market for anything. Often find something I really "need" but did not realize it until I saw it.

Not sure what side of the state you are on, but on this side, we have them every few months. I get great deals over here. Got an S&W E Series 1911 brand new from an authorized S&W dealer for $735. Any FL gun store would sell that for $1100+. Wen you compare if the shows are worth it, it probably wont take long when shopping the dealers there.

There are a couple dealers who seem to take over 25% of the show. I think Shoot Straight is one of the dealers I used a few times and they have 4 or 5 long rows of tables of great deals. Once you come home, you will either hate them or be hooked for a long time.

I snagged this off of the FGS website which you may want to check out: "Largest Gun Show in the State of Florida" The Florida Gun Shows – Tampa will be held on June 29-30, 2019 at the Florida State Fairgrounds and hosted by Florida Gun Shows. Gun Show Schedule - Florida Gun Shows

Good luck,
Vince

I go when i get a chance, never know what you might find. Vendors will vary from place to place and various times. Some bigger than others.

I go to the show here in west palm beach at the fair grounds every now and then, when I want to check out the latest on the market.
Parts are almost always available

Ammo:
9mm, 1000 rounds usually around $149, 223/556 1000 rounds $300, etc etc

I have even sold a few guns there, but I believe the private sale policy has changed now.

For $10 entrance fee, your at least gonna get to handle most if not all of the weapons your interested in.

ShootStraight hasn't been there for some time now, some kind of falling out a year or so ago, but most of the time, he is holding a gun show at the same times and dates as the WPB Gun Show.

If you're in the Stuart area when they have one at the Martin County fairgrounds just keep driving, I've gone twice and both times it was a waste of $7.

FYI.... The owner of SHOOT STRAIGHT, also owns all those gunshows and that website. Thats why half the tables at all those shows are SHOOT STRAIGHT tables.

I've been looking at 2 or 3 specific models of the Ruger Mark IV and I have called several shops around including the big ones (Nexxus, Lou's, etc) and nobody has them.
Can make up my mind on which one I want, so I was hoping to decide by feeling them since one of the main difference between them is weight and size
Also trying to decide between a Glock 19, 17 and 34, but I do not expect those being an issue to find around

Did you call lotus in Stuart? They may have them.

The mark IV 22/45 is pretty sweet. They seem to change the cosmetics every year. I’ve been happy with mine.

Yep.. that seems to be the case. In some locations, they do it monthly.
The one this past weekend happened to be 10 minutes away from my house, so it was perfect.

It was not as big or as with varied as I expected, but it had much more variety than what you can normally find visiting any one store.
Most of the stores I called had ONE model of the Ruger Mark IV I was looking for, but at the show I was able to find 4 or 5.

LOTS!!!!!! of Glocks of course.... LOTS of novelty guns.
Some tables looked like someone that has been around guns all his life, got everything he had in his garage and took it there. spare parts, broken parts, opened boxes, etc...

Lots of knives tables, very few tables offering cleaning items, and to my surprise NO ONE had any ear or eye protection items. I was expecting to see a lot of that to try some for my kids, but there was NONE....

Prices on the new guns were a little bit better than what you see on most gun store websites.
Prices On-line (gunbroker.com) are normally less than the show, but when you add, shipping and FLL you end up at the same # than the show, and you have to wait to get it shipped.
At the show, ends up being the same and you can walk out of there with the gun.

Ammo $ was good too. Again a tiny little less than advertised in Cheaperthandirt.com, and that is not adding S&H and the wait.

Online always has the best prices, but you don't get that instant gratification! lol

The good thing is you can pick up and compare all the different firearms you were considering..helps make the decision. If the price is close, I'll buy it on the spot.

Usually get some good ol Pistol Pete ammo in bulk.

Better prices online: I do not know. I was told that the last day you can bargain a little bit more at the show. I went the first day anyway and compared the prices there for some things I was interested in the spot. Like I said.. after adding S&H, CC fee and FFL, it may end up in a tie or barely a few bucks less online, but definitely not worth the wait...

Gun shows have sucked since at least the late 80s. If you want to deal with fat neckbearded tacticool hillbillies that are mainly there to showcase their shitty collection under the cover as overpriced crap, then Gun Shows are awesome.

Here is a pic of your average gun show attendee and vendor. Name: 2i0q651.jpg

All joking aside (though my description is accurate) if you like guns and like to look at them, then have fun. Might give you an idea of what you might want down the road.

I go every few years to the one in Fort Myers at the Civic Center. If you know what you want you can usually save a fair amount. The biggest retailer at that one is shoot straight so you can get an idea of prices before going as they have done a good job posting pricing online.
