Just like the good old days. They used to mess with the generators so the island was black and they could run the drugs right down the middle of the channel but this sounds like something different. They have had big problems with the power over there . I feel bad for the residents and the businesses.
It's gonna take a while for them to get it up and running. with a hard wind blowing it might take all the fuel with it.

Wow. What’s the turn around for something like this in the states? I imagine it will take them at least three times as long?

I heard the Hilton has its own generators.

In a few days they can have a few container sized generators shipped in and wired up. In some pics I saw at least two Cat units.

Probably lost a lot of switch gear, not sure how system is set up and what was lost in the fire.

The main power plant for the island was torched, it also powers S Bimini. Going to need a lot more then a few trailers, plus other then RWS most places can’t afford one.

The pumping of of fuel for the generators will also be an issue.

If if you have Bimini plans, better have a second option.

Agreed with the above comment, this is a major blow. The logistics of fueling the generators alone would be daunting at best over there. Maybe we just run a cable from miami? This sucks for them hope they get power back soon.

Update One of the two power plants burnt , one is working now and they have power on for now. Rumor has it that the plant has been leaking oil for a while. Teams are flying in from NASSAU to access the damage.

Alice town no power, South Bimini nothing heard as of yet. RWS on generators ,homes and condo no word

Resorts World generators do NOT run the entire complex - only emergency lighting, no AC in the hotel. The only place that had full power and AC was the Casino area when this happened previous year. Everyone wanted to go into the Casino for the AC and they eventually blocked guest from entering because it was already too full.

The whole situation is a bad scene. I was in that generator building 2 years ago and those generators are the size of school buses. There was oil everywhere. They have already had one of the units down earlier this year running on a smaller backup systems brought in, but weekend loads have been taking them out from overloading for couple of months now. Now with the fire they have all kinds of problems from system controls to distribution equipment. Hoping they can get some temporary units going, but it could be months before they could get those primary generators restored.

Blue Water did have an emergency generator for running the fuel pumps, but not the Marina power ... Whole island is gonna be a shit show this summer if they can't deal with this quickly and it's the Bahamas so nothing happens quickly ...

We have reservations at Hilton in 2 weeks so I just called them, they have power and said there was a fire at the power plant but it was not a total loss and that 75% of the island still has power.

I hope this is the truth and not a written rebuttal by the boss to prevent cancellations. I'll be there in two week as well for the crossing for a cure event. Does anyone know if this plant powers Cat Cay? Gas and supplies can be purchased there, but no way I'm sleeping without AC.

Right!

Called three (3) different hotels this morning and no one answered.......odd!
Probably canceling our trip planned for the 10th - unfortunate because passed my free cancellation window on VRBO.

I just spoke to Big Game Club, they said they are alternating power between areas for several hours at a time until it's fully restored.
