Default Florida Trip Planning For Summer 2020 Help Needed

Background: Have a camp and boat in Venice, La. Looking to change things up and run the boat across and down the coast next summer and rent a house for a month. Thinking the keys but open to suggestions on alternates and details for the keys. Ideally I need to find a house with a lift for a catamaran....gonna be a tough find.

Any help I can get is greatly appreciated. Iíd also love to find some locals interested in fishing while we are there.

Iím more than happy to return the favors for Venice, La or do some trip trading.

Getting started early on the planning since Iím looking for a unicorn.

Tentative plan right now is to find a weather window ahead of the house rental and make the run from Venice, La across to the Tampa area. Spend a couple days in Tampa area before heading south. Return trip would be similar.

Me a and a couple buddies will run across, wives/girlfriends and kids will meet up in Florida.

Bucket list items:
Light tackle reef stuff, yellowtail etc
permit
snook
dry tortugas
pulley ridge
snorkeling with the kids
maybe lobster If we time it right

You know....all the things you guys in Florida take for granted.

to accomplish your list of wants, I am pretty sure a base in the keys would be best. Tortugas and lobster are a ways away from any part of the west coat main land

x2 on the Keys as a base. Would suggest perhaps Marathon or Big Pine? As a former Louisiana guy myself, I say come on down and welcome. There are several THT members that have house rentals in areas that would work well for you. I always suggest searching them out first, to give the income to a like minded individual on THT. There are far more experienced and better fishermen on here than me, I am actually pretty bad at it still, but this is an easy place to like to throw a hook. Sounds like a great trip, but a heck of a fuel burn. I assume you have the range for that? I know where Venice LA is, and it's seems like a loooong way from place to place running down the coast.

Thanks guys. Direct across the gulf itís about 400 miles from Venice to Tampa area, well within my range and with all the appropriate gear including sat phone and life raft I think it would be a fun trip(maybe only twice lol).

From what Iíve seen Iím gonna be out of luck finding a rental with a lift big enough so Iíll need to get the boat hauled while Iím there to wash and prevent growth. How often do you think I need to haul it if I stay a month?

Iím budgeting 2,500 gallons or so for the entire trip, including the crossing there and back.
