Default Kingfish on west coast

Tried hard to catch my first King yesterday, trolled the Tampa Bay channel all the way out, then headed south before heading back north and trolled in the skirts of the channel. No Kingfish for me..... I trolled naked ballyhoos at 5 knots. Any ideas?

Slow troll live baits as slow as you can go on one engine. Won't cover much ground that way so focus around boat schools or structure.

Slightly different technique, but I will try that one. Thank you, I need all the help I can get.

If you don't want to fool with bait a couple of # 2 planers and some drone spoons. Run a hoo down the middle with a sea witch

Slightly south of you right off the beach of Cayo Costa there were 20 pound kings skyrocketing menhaden less than a mile offshore. Birds were all over the action. Slow trolling those or freelining them live may work well for you..

I've hooked (but not landed) kings on Mann's Stretch+ trolling the edge of the channels at about 5-6kts. Most recently, we trolled the edge of some bait that birds were on and hooked up but being inexperienced at trolling ended up giving him slack when the engine was taken out of gear.

Picked up a couple of kings on the flatlines on Wednesday, one of which was large. Haven't trolled down planers and spoons in a long time. Might try that next week. Kings are about the only large fish you are allowed to keep right now it seems.

Steinhatchee 30' of water.

Spanish sardines drifted on spinning reels with 80# fluorocarbon leader-7/0 longshank hook-#4 wire to 4X strong #4 stinger hook.
