They need to put more lights on the light.

how many times do people have to die because of that jetty before they light it up?? didn't that famous baseball player from the marlins die when his boat hit that jetty as well?

Default More Miami Government Cut jetty fatalities - Deja vu

Once again, last night, a little after 9 pm the call came in to Miami Dade Fire Rescue about a boat running up on the north jetty at Government Cut. This time ó two dead and one injured in stable condition.

FWC is conducting a homicide investigation. No doubt drugs and/or alcohol will be found to play a role in this tragedy.

Although these jetties ties are marked on all charts and well known to all who frequent the area, especially at high tide and in the dark, these UNLIGHTED jetties are nearly submerged.

With all these recurring deaths - perhaps some warning lights finally should be installed along both the north and south jetties. Even the impaired boaters who crash here might somehow avoid their fate if such warning lights are present.

I ran through there at 7:30pm last night and conditions were ideal. No waves and no visibility issues. Iíve only heard of the Fernandez accident and then this one. Have there been others lately?

While lighting up the jetties may help, if drugs and /or alcohol are found, that will be the underlying issue. They don't mix well with operating equipment of any kind. If they hadn't hit the jetty they might have quite possibly hit something else.

Marktheshark has a video on his instagram of the flipped boat. Looks like a wrapped 30 foot center console.

A few weeks back he posted a sandbar video of a Cape Horn that is wrapped. People in the comments were saying its possibly that boat. If it is, my lord. Seems the boat is owned by a father and the 15-17 year old kids use it alone often. Its a tragedy no matter who was on board. But if it was young kids....

Its hard to make out from his video but Im leaning more towards it not being that same boat.

The boat is out of Pompano/LHp my daughter is friends with the son and has been out fishing with them several times. Captain was very experienced and this is horrible news.

To much light pollution in the area. Not that it would help MAYBE. But people have to know where they are at on the boat. AGAIN a big problem in South Florida area. People are Clueless. Come over to Black point one afternoon. Most don't even know what the little green and red light in front of the boat mean. But they know what their other colored light do and the JBL amplifier.

You could place red and green lights all over both sides and they will still hit it.
