Default Nautopedic Custom Yacht and RV Mattresses

Introducing Nautopedic Custom Yacht Mattresses

Greetings all. A few years ago, I decided to replace the old mattress on my boat. It had all the support of a stack of IHOP pancakes along with the subtle fragrance of an old diesel Hatteras. Now personally, I’d sleep on a sack of rocks if it meant I could get out tuna fishing for a couple days, but the Admiral did not share my enthusiasm. Of course, as you all know, there is nothing square on boats, so it took me quite a while to find someone to make me a good quality mattress that fit the contours of our berth. I also experienced a bit of sticker shock at some of the prices out there.

Fortunately, I found a local manufacturer who was able to make me exactly what I needed, and for a reasonable price. After discussing it with several boating friends, I discovered that I was not alone in my search, and with that, Nautopedic Custom Yacht Mattresses was born.

Now, finally after a year and a half of ramping up the new business through word of mouth and personal visits to marinas, I feel ready to kick this in gear.

We offer fully quilted, custom made mattresses constructed of either poly foam, gel foam, or natural latex foam in thicknesses ranging from 4” to 8”. Either I or one of my two sales reps will visit your boat and measure it on site to ensure an accurate fit. Prices range from $20 to $70 per square foot, depending upon thickness and material.

For the time being, I am limiting our geographic range to Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Westchester County, NY, due to the fact that we personally measure your boat and also deliver the mattresses.

Please give me a call if you are interested. I am selling these through my retail business, the Beacon Falls Pharmacy, in Beacon Falls, Ct. Our phone here is 203-729-4567. If you call after hours, our system will prompt you to leave a message (Option 4). You can also email me bob@nautopedic.com. The website www.nautopedic.com is up, however still under construction, so please call or email to contact me.

The Product (100% Made in America of American by seasoned craftsmen)

I measure and create a scale template. I can send you the template if you would like to see it. Pm me your email and I will get one out to you, or visit Nautopedic.com

So, if you bought a new house or took a new apartment and the previous resident left a used mattress behind, what would you do with it?

Think you could come up with a template system you could send people to measure and template there own, then they send the template to you instead of having to come out to measure each boat?? I would think you would get a lot of orders from all over the USA?? Great idea, if I bought a used boat the first thing I would do is replace the mattress.

But when the customer gets the template wrong then who's paying? Lots of potential for bad customer experiences that way, and the risk of a negative opinion being unjustly pointed at the vendor.

Then there's also the problem of another model "just like it". With lots of boats there's potential for variations. Production run changes, field alterations by a previous owner, etc. Again, who would pay if it wasn't right?

Better to measure each one right, and deliver a quality fit.

Im sure a simple disclaimer can be implemented that the customer is responsible......just like sea deck does on all there custom stuff. He could maybe mail out a fabric template with measurements as a final layout after he gets your template and measurements. Or he waits till it takes off and has sales guys everywhere......just trying to help the guy out with more potential sales.

Every business has its legalities, but good lawyers would help him figure out a solution.

For now, I feel better keeping it small and under control. If I screw up, I eat it and don't have to get in an argument with a customer. Plus, shipping a mattress is not cheap.

Now if you want to discuss a regional franchise model, I'm open to that. Nautopedic is a great name for the product.

I think I just attached the PDF file that I use as a mattress template. (Never tried that before - I hope it works).

The template works for me and my sales guys, but I can't exactly say it's completely idiot proof.

Great name, great venture. I think you have the start of something terrific. Very admirable. All the best. I for one will pass the word.

OK, ladies and gentlemen, time to take the shrink wrap off, open up the boat, and get a whiff of that musty old mattress. You could be sleeping on a nice new one for somewhere around $600.

I could do that in 2 or 3 weeks once I move my boat from New Haven CT to Westerly. I live in central CT and its a much shorter ride from Westerly. I spend most weekends there once I move her. PM me your contact info and I'll call you to set up an appointment.

I am now available weekends to measure boats out east, as I have moved my boat to Westerly for the season.
