I ordered the kids rod from John. The only kids rod that I am aware of that exists. I paired it with a Penn 330GTI level wind reel. Few of us would consider that a high quality big game reel and that isn't the point. It is level wind, one less thing for a kid to worry about when learning how to fish. The rod will allow the kid to learn how to properly fight a fish until his body grows into a regular size rod. The reel will hold 20 lb line and 6-8 lbs max drag so this is an outfit that will catch some nice fish in a size package that will be great for a kid.
So now, my 50's and 80's are Pinnacle rods. Wire lines are Pinnacle rods. Add the kids rod to the group and Pinnacles work out pretty well for me. Thanks John.

Tim, thanks for the feedback and posting the pics! I hope that rod serves your young anglers well
I made the first one 12 years ago when my oldest was 4. Why - because there was nothing on the market that even comes close. The straight / bent butt extensions do not exist anywhere else. I have those custom made by ALPS who was kind enough to entertain the idea and give me a great deal. If you ever wonder what a 5 yr old feels like when fishing with adult equipment - get yourself a 7ft 130 class Bluefin rod - put a Tiagra 130 on it, and fish it stand-up without a harness.
The pic is my son -Nick - 8yrs old in the pic - Now 16 and still likes to use it for King and Cobia fishing.

FYI, I don't have kids. I bought this with some friends in mind for their kids. Great example you gave of trying to stand up fish with a chair rod and see how difficult that is. I know the younger anglers don't value actually learning how to fight a fish(which means taking it out of the rod holder and showing some skill) but I still do. I'm just doing my part to attempt to help a kid have fun while teaching him the proper skill. Not sure when we get to use it the first time but I am looking forward to it.

Lots of Inquiries on blue fin set-ups and of course the question, "any deals"
If you are in the market for Blue fin gear - specifically 80, and 130 class - give me a shout. Currently I have a descent reserve of both. When I have a full stock - it is much easier to grease the Deal-wheel. If you contact me via text, ebay, amazon, email, phone...please make sure you include that you are a THT member
Thanks

I have some spinning rods that I purchased from you in the past few years. It's the two piece rod and I think it's the 400g. I noticed the reel seats are aluminum with plastic underneath. Do you have all aluminum seats that can replace these?

On the spiral wrap jigging rods, how light a jig will they effectively fish? And how much do the rods weigh?
I'm looking for a rod for an Andros 5iia and trying to keep it light. I'm thinking it'll be too heavy for my typical 4-6 oz jigs. 400g is on the highest end of anything I'm likely to ever tie on.

The 4 - 6 oz is too light for the 400g rod. The sweet spot for jig action starts at 8oz thru 14oz.
The 400g spinner is really good at Bottom fishing Snapper / grouper, live baiting Kings and cobia, Dropping 8-14oz jigs for AJ's and YFT's - Favorite use is throwing 130-190g top-waters to YFT's. I just described our basic trip out in the GOF (South Texas). This rod was designed to do all of this so we wouldn't have to take 3 different rods per person to make it happen. The tip action is light enough to see the bite on most things your going to put in the cooler, and the backbone of this rod will turn just about anything.
If you have any questions about the use of this rod or any others in the arsenal, feel free to call anytime

I have the 6’ version of the 400g spinner. Is the jig rating the same as the 6’6” rod? I spoke to you on Saturday about 2 xr pro trolling rods and forgot to ask you this question. Thx Steve
