I think shark finning (cutting the fins without harvesting the entire carcass) is illegal, but selling fins is apparently allowed.
I agree with Drifter, as far as know you need to harvest the entire shark. Finning, or cutting the fins from a live shark and releasing it is obviously illegal. I am also sure you would need a permit.

It's illegal to sell anything caught on a recreational HMS permit.

congrats on catching a GREAT eating fish. Even the big ones are good eating. We had some of the new Maine State Record last year that went 552lbs and It ate just fine. Don't let these guys make you feel bad about keeping a fish as long as it doesn't go to waste.

The same guys probably wouldn't eat a black bass either. Dang good eatin. I've also tried just about all sharks in the Gulf. Shark on the beach while surf fishing is good no matter what. I don't fish period for that matter without good eats comin home to momma
and baby. That's what we have the resource for, right?
