Default Shimano Torium 30 A/R

There are lots of opinions concerning the smooth operation of the Anti-Reerse bearing used in many reels nowadays...

I am currently servicing a members Torium 30's. I just posted up my change out of the stock drags to carbon-tex.

Since I have some things apart...I wanted to show a procedure I have used for several years now....and seem to have good success with.Name: 022.JPG

I use a small bowl of mineral spirits to clean them. Since the bearings are pressed into the right side plate, I am immersing it into the spirits.Name: 023.JPG

Using a small brush I agitate and work the spirits into the bearing.Name: 024.JPG

I use a shop towel to pull thru and twist it inside the bearing. I do this several times.Name: 025.JPG

Lastly....I use some air and really blow it dry. I want it as dry as possible. My feeling is that any oil or grease that finds its way in there can hamper proper operation. Also, I watch the residue as the air blows it out..if still dirty, it goes back into the spirits.
