Thumbs up Ricks Reel Service ...

I recently started my business: RicksReelService.

I have always serviced my own fishing gear, as well as that of friends, family and neighbors and have now taken my knowledge and expertise to this next level.

Since I retired a few years back, I started soliciting more of this business, and now do reels for several charter captains in the Hernando County area.

I have a great source for parts locally, and keep a good stockpile of parts on hand for all the more popular reels.

I have a full range of fishing reel handles that are more efficient and lighter than stock handles.

I offer carbon-tex drags for almost all reels.

My pricing begins at $25 for most all basic and conventional reels and goes up to $50 for 2 speed lever drags.

Spinning reels begin at $25. Sorry, no Okumas or Penn Battles, Conflicts, Captivas.

Please note my new prices on my website; effective Oct. 2015

I use USPS for most shipping, as well as Fed-Ex. The USPS regional rate boxes ship for as low as $6.

I see this as an opportunity to provide the services as a custom shop at pricing I feel you will be satisfied with.

I think its a fantastic idea. Alan has been a tremendous help to me personally and his website is an excellent source of knowledge. i enjoy learning how to repair and modify my own equipment but having someone to turn to in the event of a screw-up is a necessity. good luck with your endeavors

I'm one of those guys who has neither the time nor inclination to do my own reel maintenance. Luckily I have the means to pay someone else to do it and I can tell you that I would MUCH rather send them to someone well known on THT than a stranger at a shop with good web reviews.

well...i doubt you meant your comment in a negative way towards the other individual previously mentioned, but I can personally attest to that persons top shelf customer service. he is one of the few people in this world who will mail you supplies and a bill BEFORE you pay for the merchandise. I mean, who ships $150 worth of drags, handles, washers, and supplies across the country without having gotten paid? everyone who knows that person will attest to his unfailing commitment to customer service. sorry, not trying to derail or rant just had to give credit where credit is due...carry on!

I didnt realise it could have sounded that way! I have no idea about Alan Tani and meant no disrespect to him. I was just saying that I would prefer someone I " know" on here, to a crapshoot off the web.

Rick I've dealt with you buying/selling reels and tackle and can tell people firsthand you're a straight up guy so we've got that part covered! Now as long as you don't have a few "extra" screws laying around when you're done putting a reel together I think you'll be all set!

All kidding aside, I think THT would be well served by a quality source for reel repair. Good luck with the venture!

I think it is a great idea Rick.

I've fished with Rick and seen his "tackle room" and the way he takes care of his equipment. I wouldn't hesitate to send you my reels. Shipping is cheap using the prepaid boxes, and many times it takes less time to drop them in the mail than drop them off at a shop.

Most of us barely have time to get on the water, let alone maintain our equipment. I think we would also support a member when possible.

Good luck with this!

I would like to know your address so that I can send a reel in for repair. I have a Quantum Catalyst PTS 30 that the gear that drives the spool up and down broke into several pieces the other day.

Best wishes on the venture. If I need parts/pieces, which brands and models do you have the most parts on hand for? It would be good to be able to get an emer part right across town!

Rick,
Great to hear you are making this venture a public one! I think its a great idea. There aren't to many qualified people around these days who service reels and given what I know about you and the fact that you really know your stuff, I wouldn't hesitate to take advantage of your services. Fortunately all my reels are in perfect working order right now but at first sign of trouble, you will be hearing from me!

Best of luck with this! I am sure you will find many happy customers!

my god I wish you were in pinellas.. We have a couple guys here that do our reels. It is bad.. Usually 2 month turn around time.. Hell one guy kept our reels, lost our ticket and tried to give us someone elses reels. He brought all the reels down that he had not tagged or lost track of and said pick your reels out LOL great business man.. Luckly we found our reels in his box of toys, there were some really nice reels in there but we are not scum bags.. if we were we could have had some gold reels guy was giving out other peoples REELS.. unbelieveable.

Well, with these responses as well as all the PM's, you guys have made my decision a pretty easy one....I am now going to be a THT sponsor!

I keep a lot of parts on hand, especially most of the Penn, Shimano and Diawa reels.

However my ace in the hole is a shop in Holiday, Fl that my wife passes daily on her way to and from work. They stock a little more than 40,000 parts on hand. I can have most of what I need the next day...

So, grouperking...alll you would have to do is venture north to the Tarpon Spgs area and we could meet up with you. I am down there frequently as well as my wife...

As far as the others that have posted, I will send PM's!

Thanks again guys....

Best of luck, Rick. I'm with Grouprkng on this one, but in Hillsborough county instead. I have had reels take wayyyyy too long to be repaired where I used to drop them off.

Well atta boy, Rick! Best wishes and I will definitely recommend you to my Hillsborough and Pinellas buddies!!

I've been to Rick's house several times, it's a piece of cake to get to from either Hillsborough or Pinellas. Simply take the Veterans Xway N (becomes the Suncoast Pkwy around Lutz), get off at County Line Rd., hang a right and you are practically there. I live just N of Rick off 50 and it only takes me 45 minutes to get to TIA...
