Default Lowrance 525c DF

Partially operational. Bottom machine works great. GPS not so good. I started getting a "GPS module not responding error and rewired the network power like recommended and it still has issues. Although the GPS did strangely work labor day weekend. This is a factory refurb that Lowrance sent me after the first machine broke so it does have a couple months of factory warranty. I think they said six months from mid-August.

You get the unit, mounting bracket, power wire, gps antenna, antenna wire, nmea parts, transducer.

$175 shipped.

Couple of questions.

What ducer were you using with it?

Did it read the bottom good at speed? (under 100 feet)

Whats the deepest you had it hitting (slow speed or drifting)?

Does it have radar mode?

The GPS part actually isn't important to me as I have Lowrance GPS but my 2nd display which is a Lowrance color DF doesn't read the bottom while on plane. My last monochrome Lowrance DF read the bottom much better using the same Airmar thru hull ducer.

I was using the ducer that came with it. I didn't really read the bottom at speed. I blame that on the ducer being mounted a few feet somewhat behind my live well pick up. I have picked up bottom in up to 800 feet drifting off the keys. Yes, it has a radar option on the "pages" screen.

I dive/spearfish alot and I've been very impressed with the detail of the bottom machine after looking at very subtle bottom structure and then diving on it. I think proper ducer placement would be a big improvement while on plane or a thru hull would be even better.

This is a pretty good unit, especially for this price. I have one on my boat. With the factory ducer, I can read bottom up to about 500', very simple to use, and it can easily be networked with other plotters. It does have the radar option. The reason it's probally not seeing the satelite is the antenna. Lowrance has had some issues with the antennas that come with their products. I had the same problem with mine so I ended up networking my 525 and my 111hd and running them off the same antenna.

It's the 3000 series antenna.

Yeah the antenna was my thought as well. The 2000 series were failing like crazy so they came out with the 3000. Sinse getting the 3000 antenna I never have a problem.

I currently have a Global Map 5200C linked with an X515C DF fish finder (both color). I use the DF as my radar display also. But like I said the damn thing won't read the bottom on plane and barely hits 300 feet even while sitting still. I think there is something wrong with it.

Hmmm....this is a $175 gamble for me. The LMS 525 and my X515 have the same 4000 watt output and 2500 max depth range. But it would be nice to have two GPS units on the same network (even if one is spotty).

What the hell....paypal or check?
