Vortex Hubs

I am going to replace my Tie Down 12" integral rotor/hub assembly in the next month or two. 2 axle trailer. There are a couple threads on tht regarding the vortex hubs. Are they worth they increase in price? I have had some issues with dust cap grommets and dust caps. I replace them each time I repack. What rear seal do those kits coming with? I would assume it is the triple lip rubber seal. Any information on the vortex hubs would be greatly appreciated. There is a large price increase and I wonder if the rest of the components will be ready for replacement before 5 years.

Thanks

I installed them on my boat trailer this year, they replaced oil bath hubs.
For whatever reason they run cooler.
I just went out and pulled the caps. One of the hubs has a tiny bit of water in it and shows some rust on the end of the spindle. I'll inspect deeper later. The hubs were cool when I launched the boat.
I didn't find out about air pressurized hub systems till after I bought these. Kinda wish I had gone that direction.
They are probably fine for dry applications.

They come with a 2.25" ID triple lipped seal. From my experience they have been great and I will install another set if I needed new hubs again. If you do go with them just remember to buy some of the correct Lucas grease they require to maintain their warranty if you ever need to add or flush the old grease.

Chris, I bought the 12" vented cap GalvX disc brake kits from you in April. I'm guessing the Vortex hubs don't seat deep enough on the spindles to let all the seal engage. The wheels fit under the fenders, it pulls just fine, brakes work great and the bearings run cool.
I cleaned the small amount of rust off the end of the spindle and outer bearing shell, reinstalled per instructions (50 ft lbs to seat, etc.).
This is on an E-Z Loader trailer with who knows what torsion axles. I pumped Lucas grease into the zerk. The cap on the inside of the hub filled with grease and none to very little came through the hub to the outside.
I will keep an eye on them I 'spose.

Thanks for the info. I think I will give them a try.

Did you use the seals that came with the hubs? If so they are 2.25" and the EZ Loader should have a shoulder size of 2.125" and require a different seal.

Chris, thanks for getting back to me.
I did use the seals that came with the hubs. The seals for the old oil bath hubs I replaced are TCM 21334TB.
Can you let me know which triple lipped seals to get?
Other than the current seal-spindle fit these hubs and brakes are a big improvement over the OE stuff.

OK, I'll put an order together. New bearings too.

Was just on your website to purchase and had a question. I currently have the 12 integral hub rotor assembly. The vortex is the cap style. Will I have the correct brake mounting flange and is there a possibility my spindle could be a little too long? Trailer is a wesco. 6 lug on 5.5. I am running the 82100 kit.

Thanks

Sometimes the mounting brackets are different between integral and slip over rotors, but the flange and spindle dimensions do not vary so they are interchangeable on the same axle.

Chris,

Thanks for the response. I am currently running your 82100 kit. I want to switch to 82062. From what I can tell the brake flange is included in the kit. I want to make sure those two are interchangeable before I order them for 2 axles, a spare hub, and spare caps. I think the flange has the same mounting bolt pattern but not sure.

EASTERNMARINE 11-01-2017 09:11 AM

Those two kits are interchangeable on the same axle. But I'm going to recommend spending another $60 and go with this setup instead. That way you get the Kodiak Stainless calipers versus the aluminum from Tie Down.
