Default New used car - s8?

My e63 got totaled after a mini van rear ended me at speed on Friday. Think I'm going to get an s8, anyone have one? Looking at a 2015 with 60k miles. Any other suggestions for a new (used) car?

A used rs7 is around the same price as the s8 you are looking at. I would probably get another e63 or an rs7 if you can. Nothing against the s8 but that seems more like s class size than e class

The S8 is probably a great deal for a reason. The Audi 8, BMW 7, and Mercedes S class car all depreciate like crazy as they don’t make many of them. Your E class is like the Audi 6 and BMW 5 in that it’s a much better selling chassis and therefore the long term costs a much less. That being said, the S8 is an amazing car with comfort and speed that is rivaled by few cars, and if you can make peace with the on going costs, I would fully endorse the decision.

If there’s a way to get one with a CPO warranty that would be my preference. I’ve been trying to find a CPO E63 Wagon and they are still fetching top dollar, the quest continues...

If you pull the trigger post pics!

My across the street neighbor has one that he would be happy for someone to take off his hands. Car is in the shop more than it is in his driveway. He has approached them several times about taking the car back and giving him a different model, but they won't. I'm not kidding you, he just got it back last week after 4-5 months in the shop (this time), they gave him a loaner SUV this time and he told them he would rather keep the SUV, but they weren't having any of it. I have ridden in it and it is a sweet car when it's performing like it should. Most of his problems have been with the computer related systems, a lot to do with the suspension and the ride characteristics.....they always give him the excuse that they are waiting forever on a part.

No advise, but curious!

What's a s7 or s8 or rs7?

Never heard of any of these.

The 640 is plenty fast, but if you want super fast get the 650 V8 at 500hp or M

I like my 550. 2014 is when BMW got the n63 bugs worked out. There are some good deals on Alpina B7 on eBay if you look.

Never drove the S but had use of a 2017 A8 for a few weeks. I prefer the 750i ride and styling to all the other large lux sedans. Going to be hard to replace the AMG fun factor, that drivetrain is fantastic. I’ve owned a few of the big German sedans and the BMW is the one I liked best.

I have an S8. Awesome car. Those giving you the horror stories are just that, horror stories. Every brand/model car has those. That said, the one you’re considering is high mileage and heading out of warranty this year (Audi’s 4 year standard warranty) and is expensive as hell to work on/maintain out of warranty. If you can get it CPO’d with an extended warranty then let it rip. Otherwise there are other similar deals out there. I’d look at the S63 if you’re a Benz guy as a comparable potentially to S8 vs the R7, or maybe look at the s7. Same exact car as r7 just without as much speed and lower price tag.

I’ve had both Benz and Audi. I think the Audi’s have less “breakdowns” overall, but that’s just my experience.

Thanks all. I don't like the s63, loved the e63 but want something different. Not crazy about the m5 or m6 (brother has one). I only put about 5k miles a year on the car so something with 60k out of warranty doesn't scare me, trying to find the sweet spot where I lose the least if I trade in a year or two. I"m going to drive the s8 today, it's only 6 inches longer than the s6 so I'm thinking it's not going to feel like the s class Mercedes? I dont' want a huge car but love the tech and the hp in the s8.

A friend of mine has an RS7. If you stomp on the gas (in sport mode) it feels like you've been rear-ended by a bullet train.

It's a fun, beautiful car, but I could never afford the tickets.

Hello, Ive ridden in a S8, its fantastic, one of the ultimate Q cars, if its debadges it looks almost the same as the A8, hoof it one and it feels like you´ve been fired from a rocket silo, wipes many a smirk from the chops of someone not expecting it, like a Ferrari except you can put your mates in it and your golf bats in the trunk. I'm all for Euro trash, couple of other things that come to mind are a Porsche Panamera (also awesome) and if you don´t like the BMW M cars, how about a BMW Alpina? Or even a V12 Mercedes (non AMG), smooth as unruffled silk with a punch like Mike Tyson. A jaguar XJR, supercharged Jaguar raffishness and as comfy as your favorite armchair.

My friend just sold his S8 - I really liked the car - drove really well - he didn't have any issues... Don't like the GPS screen but that's not a big deal
